Trying to decide if I should fix this myself or have a shop do it under insurance claim.

Rodent chewed through the wires in these pictures. I tried to rewire on the side of the road but the problem persisted (probably because I had very short wire ends to deal with and the wrong gauge wire).

Things had a cache of dog food under the air intake behind the power steering pump reservoir!

I went to the dealer with the same problem. Dealer said there policy is to replace the complete wiring harness period. Took it to an independent repair shop and it was $150. But this was yrs ago! It’s probably 3 times that now.

I believe it. The dealer told me it was because of insurance purposes. The independent shop just spliced and heat shrinked the wires.

If it’s only those two harnesses, think you could DIY. I would do it if I were in the same boat.

A new harness is between $1,800 and $2,000 on Toyota Parts Deal. I am not sure of the exact part number you need, but that is the range for all the ones listed. This is unfortunate, but the good news is that everything appears to be fairly accessible, and depending on how comfortable you are with wire repair, it is completely doable. As @spitdog mentioned, a competent independent mechanic would have no problem handling a repair like this. Unfortunately, dealers typically only replace parts, even if the issue could be resolved by soldering or splicing in a few new wires. I would check eBay for a used harness at a decent price. That way, you can cut off the connectors you need and have a good pigtail to splice into any connectors where the wires were chewed down to the bone.

Easy fix if that's the only 2 connectors, fuel injector connector and I can't tell what the other one is.

Standard Motor Products I know makes the injector connector pigtail, they probably make the other one too.

Yeah @Ripcord has a thread on this. Very unfortunate.

If you have comprehensive insurance, I’d see if rodent damage is excluded but would otherwise file a claim.
