Hey, guys. New to the forum and having lighting issues with my '02 Tacoma 4x4. When you press the brake pedal, the left brake light illuminates but the right doesn't. Bulb is good. If the headlights are on, all of the rear lights come on. When the brake pedal is again pressed, only the left brake light illuminates and all of the other rear lights go out. Ideas?? Bad ground?

Do you have trailer wiring on the truck?

No trailer light hookup on the truck and all bulbs illuminate until the brake pedal is pushed. Then you only have the left brake light left on.

Can you check the bulb socket for the taillight that goes out and see if you're losing all voltage to the bulb when the brake pedal is applied? That could help you determine if you're maybe losing input power to the brakelight circuit. May need to check the ground side (I'm ASSuming the circuit is positive switched, I am not familiar with whether it is or not) as well to see if you're either losing power to the brake light circuit (damage to wiring upstream of the bulb socket) or if you don't have a ground leg (would need to follownand check the wiring from the ground leg of the bulb socket to wherever it runs to).

Thanks for the feedback. I’ll give it all a check. My kid has the truck right now so I’ll have to get him to check it or wait till I get the truck home.
