    Hey ya'll,
I just bought a 2020 TRD Off-Road that's fairly extensively modded. I'm running into a problem, though. There's no mic. There's a steering wheel control for voice control and an SOS button, but no mic (or wires for one) to be found in the upper console. The head unit is stock, so I tried looking up the pinout and testing a 3.5mm jack and mic out by tapping into pins 21 and 22, but no dice. I'm losing my mind trying to figure out how to add a mic into the mix. Any thoughts or advice?

The mic is not in the upper console, it is in the headliner above the drivers head.

Is your phone paired with your unit if so then push button on steering wheel and talk if no one hears you then you have no mic.

Ha! I spent so long rooting around behind the upper console, convinced my mic harness would be jammed up there somewhere. My thanks to you all for fighting the urge to type "you idiot...". I'll root around up there later and see if the last owner disconnected the mic.

If I recall correcty, the stock head unit does not have a 3.5 (or 2.5) microphone attahcment on the rear. It is integrated into the small-pin harness. Is it possible the prior owner had an aftermarket head unit and switched back to stock and forgot to re-connect the oem mic?

I just removed my stock mic and replaced it with the one below that attaches to an aftermarket head unit via a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. Works a charm

The stock mic goes through the DCM unit before reaching the radio head.

Do you have an aftermarket radio? EDIT: No, you have the original head unit stated in your OP.

DCM related questions: DCM = Data Communications Module
Did the prior owner deactivate the DCM?
Do you have a DCM fuse in the under hood fuse box?
Do you have a light on the SOS button in the upper center console?
Are you signed up on Toyota's Spy system? For a monthly/yearly fee.

Your OP mentions pins 21 & 22. Of what connector?

Ahh, it goes through the DCM. Looking at the pinout again, I see my 2-wire attempt was ignorant. It seems the stock mic is powered and requires 4-wires anyway.
I don't see a fuse specifically for the DCM, but all of my fuses appear to be present. I see two specifically for the radio, neither of which have been pulled.
The SOS button is in fact lit, and I am not (and don't plan to be) subscribed to the spy network.
    I tried wiring a 3.5mm jack to pins 21 and 22 of connector R49.
There is an anytime camera mod installed (front cam missing, not functional with new one plugged in), so there are harness jumpers behind the HU. There didn't seem to be anything out of order with them, but I'm going to try plugging the OEM connector back in this weekend and see what happens.

And thanks to everyone responding, I honestly wasn't expecting much help on this front. Loving the community so far!

If the SOS light is lit, then the DCM fuse (10A) is present in the engine compartment fuse box and the DCM is powering the microphone circuit. Found R49 on the back of the radio, center top connector.

Don't have much else for you.
