I have a 2025 SR5 2WD with stock 245-70-17, 7"wide wheel. I am going to buy the Ultra Maverick 17" wheels which are 8" wide and some 265-65-17 tires. But when I do a search for "widest tire allowable for 8" wheel" EVERY tire/wheel expert site says 245 mm is the widest you can go on an 8" wheel. Yet when I look at individual tires on Discount Tire site every tire description says you can put their 265 mm tires on as narrow as a 7" wide wheel. So who's correct?

Factory TRD tacoma with 7.5" wide rims are 265 width. Don't stress it.

7-8 works for 265 just fine. Once you're over 8" you'd be best going 275 or bigger.
