Fuel pump

    This problem was a true stumper. It didn't act like a fuel pump. I couldn't correctly diagnose the problem. I carried this truck to 3 different shops. #1 and #2 could not fix it. They all went to chasing codes. The answer is not always on the scanner. What they would do is loosen the fitting on the gas line. It would squirt, so they assumed the pressure was good. Maybe it was at that time. But after the engine would warm up, fuel pressure would drop. There was one very small place on the accelerator that would keep it running. This was confused with "limp home mode" in the electronics. That was not the case.
    My 2004 taco has a 2.4, with 177k miles. If anyone is reading this and has this problem, try to measure fuel pressure. Don't assume the pressure is constant.

    I’ve had this same type issue with the fuel pump going out, it didn’t just stop but slowly would not have enough pressure and the truck would cut out completely a few times a week. I let it rest for 10 minutes both times when it cut out driving and then was working again for a few more day, removed the bed and new pump and everything was good again
