Hey Tacoma world, need some help diagnosing a strange noise that’s started in the last couple months.

At exactly 70 MPH, I can hear a very high pitched ringing or whistling noise. I can’t really tell, but it seems like it might be getting slightly worse over time. It’s super abrupt at 70 MPH, and I can occasionally hear it a little quieter at 41 MPH, but not as reliably as I can hear it at 70 MPH. It doesnt really change under different engine loads or throttle positions.

Some additional info, my truck is a 2019 TRD Pro (automatic) with 93K miles, 5.29 regear (installed around 55k miles), Magnuson super charger (installed at 80K), bedcover, rock sliders, and 265/75r16 wild peaks. Apart from that the truck is stock.

See linked video to hear the noise while driving: https://youtube.com/shorts/bTSmey-fyaE?si=j78IROSXCOYS6hbe

Any ideas what this might be? It definitely sounds different from the diff howl I’ve had for the last 4 years or so after my 5.29 regear. My initial thoughts were drivetrain or something to do with a supercharger bearing or some kind of leak? Curious if anyone else has had this happen? Thanks in advance for the help.

That sounds like something coming out of an electronic device. It’s too close to a perfect sine wave (1000 hz?) to have a mechanical source. That’s how it sounded on my phone anyway.

Pretty close to 1K, maybe 700hz.
That might be the alarm to let you know you are almost at 88mph and then it's go time.

It seems like you’re hitting a harmonic resonance. See if it does it in another gear still at 70mph.

ahh good idea, I will try that! It never did this before though, so was concerned about a new (very annoying) noise.

If it is electronic, I have no idea what it would be. Maybe someone bugged my truck? lol

Might be worth investigating, I had my brakes serviced at my last oil change, but they were fine after that. Would they shift or change over time?

Not usually unless you hit a rock offroading.
