Hey guys, I’m new year and need some help. I just inherited my father-in-law‘s 1999 Toyota Tacoma SR5 V6 4x4 manual. He recently passed away and I want to restore the truck. This truck sat in a field for six years and mice have taken its toll on the truck. There are lots of issues that need to be addressed, but one of the biggest is wiring. There are obvious wires that have been chewed on other wires that I am assuming he cut while trying to do repairs. I am trying to find some sort of engine bay diagram that tells me what all I am looking at. I feel like I might be missing parts, but I’m not 100% sure. I will post a photo of my engine bay and some closer ups of the wires that are messed up. Any guidance or assistance would be much appreciated!IMG_0641.jpg IMG_0635.jpg IMG_0622.jpg IMG_0641.jpg

Looks like the throttle by wire module was chewed thru, just match colors and get the wires back together.

Do the same with the wiring coming they the firewall

The wind shield wiper motor was cut at the plug, not necessary just to get it running.

The radiator reservoir is dry rotted, that will need replaced, but again not needed just to start it.

Replace both battery cables, get a battery.

Take your time and get the wiring sorted before you hook the battery up.

It's possible it will need a fuel pump, might be why it was parked, you can cross that bridge when you get it to crank over.

I'd see if the motor will turn over by hand before starting anything. If it's seized that may change your plans.

Sorry for your loss. Just curious how many miles are on the truck and does any family members know why it was parked in the field?

he got a job that came with a company truck and then it was no longer his daily truck. It was driven periodically by his son but unfortunately his son passed away and no one touched it. Sat for roughly 6 years.

If you can find a replacement harness, even if it is $500 I would go that route. Too many times on this forum people have had electrical issues and when they finally discover what the problem is it is always a crappy butt connector hidden in the harness somewhere. If you do decide to go this route contact your local toyota dealer for the correct harness part number, There are harnesses for 2.4, 2.7 and 3.4 with differences. I second getting the fatory wiring manual. Honda makes what is refered to as Rat Tape, does it keep them from eating the wiring again, no but it is a deterrant. Once a mouse or rat pees on something all other mice/rats follow that smell.

I'd be curious why it was parked. Agreed about the chewed items, just go color to color and see how far that gets you.

Get a heat gun and butt connectors with solder inside. (Google them they are great.)

You'll save yourself a ton of aggravation and sweat by buying an entire harness.

Also, have you inspected the frame for rust to see if all the work you will be putting into the truck is worth it? Sitting in a field for six years is usually not a good thing for the underbody of any vehicle.
