Question on rear backing plates

    2004 Toyota Tacoma 3.4L 4x4 M/T
    I am wondering what the purpose of this thin metal rim near the edge of the backing plate is? These are off a Toyota pickup I am working on but they similar enough to those on a Tacoma. Am I better off buying a new one or is it OK as is? Thanks!upload_2025-8-15_19-21-18.jpg

    It's a lip to prevent the brakes from being exposed to the elements

    If its bent it can be a bear to bend into place so it doesnt contact the drum.

    Those are clearly painted. I'd sooner buy new unless those are free.

    Looks like heavy rust painted over find you a better set. JMHO
