Starting voltage

    That's probably why then. You have to check it with the engine is fully warmed up (the system puts out a little more voltage when cold for the cold battery to better accept the charge).

    Mine always reads 13.85V after the engine has warmed up for a bit (Fluke 87 is what I have also).

    I’ll use my Klein volt meter to check it and see what the two devices are reporting. I also have an AGM charger and can top up before I head south.

    To close this out, this morning after a 30 minute commute I got out the volt meter. Warmed up, idling the device plugged in to the 12v port said 14.0v and the meter said 14.3v.

    Surprised how it could be off by so much. But then again, all I know about electricity is it’s invisible and it hurts.

    A decent backyard battery test is to simply turn the headlights on without starting the engine and let it sit for 15-20 minutes

    A strong battery should be able to still start the truck

    Up here in Seattle with the ferry system we jokingly call that the "ferry test" because folks will listen to the stereo while waiting and then they need a jump-start
