ok went out to the barn & checked compressor again. still foooked.

so got started. lets back up just a hair...

not sure on this format how to insert pix in a certain spot so will just go with them by the title.

the hole/plug picture is when i noticed the problem. this was open & blowing air out. was it supposed to be open? had it been open? or did this just vibrate out over time?
i plugged it & that didnt fix it.

next pic is before taking head off my kids named it Big Blue when i brought it home.

Jug from top after head removal is next.

then head on bench & head after a wipe off.

thats where im at. gonna go watch some more vids & see how to take it apart... do i need to take the tops off or what not.

if ya got input? im always a listener/reader.

very gooey & oily in there. these pix are before i wiped anything off.

also: guy from comp repair outfit in Oregon who specializes in these is gonna try to find the model number/series from my pix since the tag is gone.

You probably know, but the basic math for determining if you should fix it is, what's it worth fixed, less what's it worth broken, equals the most you should spend to repair it. You can throw other factors into the equation to influence your decision, like how much you enjoy how much quieter it is.

Emotions aside. I'd look around to see if you can find a rebuild kit for a bit less money elsewhere. In the short term, I'd go get the one for 200 just to have a working compressor. Then figure out what to do with the current compressor.

Ok he just got back to me with a diagram & it for sure is a 325 9 series.

Yeah man I'm beating it around. Could go to HF & get a new head to stick on there for around 200 & still use all the rest of the set up... Or pick up another one...

Just what I need more stuff in the way. Or fork out 3x what I paid for it to fix it.

Gonna tap out the broken bolt tomorrow & make a gasket then see if that makes any difference. If it don't? Will probably move to one of the other options.

I'm a retiree & not sure I wanna throw that kinda change at it.

    Update tomorrow.

That Quincy is a lifetime unit, if you repair it you should be good for many years.

The kit in the photo seems to have rings, bearings, seals - can you just get a valve kit?

Replacing the broken bolt and giving all the valve parts a good cleaning might get the unit back running fine.

Not me, I'm just the operator.

That old Ford always punches well above the weight class.

You might look into a new compressor. Got mine on sale a couple years ago and am quite pleased with how quiet it is.

They make it look so easy until you try it and wind up with multiple hand wounds and no valve stem in the wheel

That's what I've always done. The toughest ones are on the skidsteer though because the sidewalls are so stiff. Then it's a bear to get them to take air, usually have to put a ractchet strap around them to get the bead close enough. I've also smeared grease around them to take up space :anonymous:
