Picked up a well loved softopper off facebook for $100. Already having a black one, this seemed like a fun deal to be able to swap out for another color and also have a backup if one was to get damaged again. (First one was vandalized back in January this year lol)

Couple hours, simple green, and a drill brush, this thing looks really good again. Had all those nasty black spots all over it from age.

White truck is the before. Silver is it now

Hello, pretty new here. I got a 2015 Prerunner at auction for cheap. Only thing listed as wrong with it was "bad motor".
Spent a few days removing both the oil pan and oil pan subassembly and found out the cause - a spun rod bearing and a buggered up crankshaft. Roughly adding up parts to properly fix it is getting expensive.
With that, does anyone know a reuputible place to buy a reman/new 2tr-fe?

The truck used to belong to a smaller utility. If I had to guess they probably changed the oil based on miles, and didn't account for engine idle time, which meant the oil was getting changed late for ~230xxx miles.

use car-part.com to find a used motor thats local to you. These are extremely reliable motors so used ones are not terribly concerning.

Always thought the idea of getting something at auction was alluring… Until you meet the people that bid those cars (or boats or whatever) professionally.

Extremely hard place to generate alpha and high carry cost if you get a less than ideal asset.

It’s kinda like going to a whorehouse looking for a wife or girlfriend.

Normally only run Toyota parts, but decided to see how these caliper pins hold up. Got them for C$4.80 per pair, about 1/3 of Toyota price.

    https://www.thewrenchmonkey.ca/products/auto-parts/raybestos/h15095/

Figure at that price they become a consumable item and can just be replaced more frequently. Greasing the OEM ones has helped, but they still look rough and rusty.

Thank you for the website, unfortunately all engines it found that are around me are either products of mangled front-end damage, or equally expensive as some remans/new ones I found online. Jasper Engines doesn't reman them, and my local dealership couldn't source one either, even used. They would be able to get me parts, but that approaches the cost of a replacement.
From how it looks I'll probably end up getting a new engine shipped from the least sketchy place I can find online.

I got the truck for $650, so if I don't come out ahead with it I've done something terribly wrong lol

Front passenger side wheel bearing. Did it in about an hour. A little more with cleanup.

Would have been a great time for a much needed brake upgrade. The 4Runner setup is calling my name. Too bad I didn’t think to slap on a new larger dust shield so I wouldn’t have to remove the bearing again.

Last pic didn’t have the cotter pin in or dust shield on yet. Not a lot of pics, was running out of daylight.

Just ditch the dust shields all together next time you're in there.

What’s the benefit of this? I’m just wirewheeling mine and respraying black with a 2000* paint.
I figure it does its job keeping brake dust off your suspension and dirt off of your brakes o_O

I clean my suspension pretty regularly, and ive seen no difference in dirtyness between with and without them. However ive had plenty little rocks wedge between the shield and disc while off roading. Makes a hell of a noise, pain to get them out, and it can score your rotor.

    upgraded to a jeep
    IMG_2940.jpg
jk jk, I stole the girlfriends car to go buy some sweet icon RXTs with <100 miles on them for 375.
Seriously I know there is a bunch of jeep hate, but y’all are right. This is a 2019 jeep wrangler bought 5 monthes ago by her parents for her.
    1. In the first month it started overheating on her from a coolant leak, “fixed”. Month later overheats from an electric fan going bad.
    2. On long drives the cab is excessively loud, I never thought I would notice that from a car until I’m old enough to complain about birds chirping too early (or something useless to that effect)
    IMG_2954.jpg
    3. Steering has the worst feel out of any car I have ever driven.
    4. I’m still young enough to not care about the suspension feel but if you focus on it, it’s way too bouncy, not planted at all.
    5. Andddd fast forward to today, I opened up the door and the driver side floorboard is soaked, all windows were up and the top way secured. Not sure where it came from nor do I really care, it’s legitimately a hunk of junk. Helped me to get some Tacoma parts tho:bananadance:
I have been trying to get her to sell it and get a 4-runner, like a 2013 or something. Then I could do all the work for her as well (I’m not touching that turbo-charged heap of poorly put together wires and scrap metal).
But because her parents spend 28k on a car valued around 18k KBB:bananadead:, she feels bad and doesn’t want to sell it

story time is over, enough ranting for one night, I’ll be back tomorrow with a random question, probably about a CV joint or cab mount bushing grease or something  we will just have to see.

Will I run into that on the way to the mall
Sounds like it’s beneficial for your application, I’ll stick with my cute little freshly painted backdrop becaude that’s what Toyota has brainwashed me to believe is best.

I got it from Ben 3d build if you search him he has all of his stuff on his ih8mud. You will have to email him with what you want. But I see you have an 06 you need to get the overhead console with 2 sunglass holders. If you want a replacement for the compass and temp go to bobs mirrors that is what I did and I like everything now really nice having a autodimming mirror and homelink.

Swapped rear bumpers with @crazy joker! He had a SOS high clearance right down the road legit 10 min drive. coming off his salvage title turning it back into a work truck and onto my salvage title lol.

took a while to sand, prime, and paint. also fabed and 3d printed a rear camera mount for the existing hole for towing harness. pictures are in order from before to after!20250630_145122.jpg IMG_2677.jpg IMG_2682.jpg IMG_2680.jpg IMG_2683.jpg IMG_2820.jpg
