I can manage, but see I'm wearing away at my laces rather than the toe box. I also either have a habit of kicking into neutral from 2nd on some tech terrain, usually downhill. Figure I might be inadvertantly placing my foot too close to the shifter that it naturally bumps it down, if the shifter can be place inwards a tad more or might help.

 

didnt try any golf r since there isnt to many close to our house. but was able to check out a couple 23-24 gti autos. i did try the manual and for the first time i didnt really like the manual with that car? something about it was funky? the auto was a lot of fun and was pretty quick as well.

we also checked out a mazda speed 3 hatch awd. i wanted to drive it since well i drove one when i was 18 and liked it and figured maybe its the same? nope god awful! terrible seats! terrible handling! it had power yes but it was a very very slow power! now once it got up and moved it was quick but from a dig? ya nope!

i asked if i could drive a miata (mind you i just drove the speed 3 top of line and it was a 42k car!) and asked if they just had the base model still in stock for 32k? they said they did but they would need to do a credit report check before i can even test drive one... like wtf... toyota didnt do that for the gfc, gr86... honda didnt do that for the fl5 type r... so lame!

 

Would it have mattered if they did the credit check?

 

If he wasnt buying why would he take a credit hit

 

Anytime a dealer wants to do stuff, I just leave. They obviously aren’t interested in selling cars.

I’ve had it happen to me twice. Once when I went to look at Scion TC and once when I looked at a celica GTS (which was nothing like the listing said) and they also had a Lexus IS F on the lot.

 

I was thinking they stopped that affecting credit, but I guess there are two options now, "soft inquiry" and "hard inquiry", dealers can do either. Soft has no effect. But also digging more... sounds like it's just a bitch move on the part of the dealer. I'd go somewhere else, lol.

You can also just pull up your credit score on your phone and be like how’s this? lol

 

As much as I hate sales guys at dealers, I feel like it's just not that bad over here anymore. Nowadays it seems like you say you're window shopping and they usually say, cool, talk to you later, let me know if you wanna test drive anything.

 

I'm not sure about the car he was looking at, but it isn't uncommon to have to jump through extra hoops for rarer cars that are hard to come by for a dealer, or high dollar stuff. Simply outta risk.

 

i tried that! i told them i can show you what chase tells me on my phone... yaaa no we have to do it...

thats how it started as well! the dude was cool at first let us drive a few cars and then i asked about the car i had come to truly drive and i got nope!

not fully true either... a miata is a miata its nothing special! sorry for die hard miata guys! but its not lol. back when i was getting rid of my ranger i went to look at a grc. i asked the dude if icould test drive it and see if i even like it and he went ya know what its a nice day lets go! so we took it off the showroom floor and went for a rip! 15min test drive! so much fun! the honda dealer next door i went to check out an fl5 i asked about it and talked numbers then asked hey could i drive it? i know its a type r but can i? oh ya sure let me pull it off the floor and we can go for a ride! a lot shorter of a test ride lol but still a blast! the only car ive been turned away from was a evo 10 because when you buy one of those new you have a class you have to take.

 

Yeah some of the special ones they will be more reserved about. It was way worse when inventory was low

 

I could be wrong, but I believe the 5 speed was the standard manual offering but they had a 6 speed as an option on the V6's

 

On the other end of it, some salesmen have become so nonchalant it's frustrating.

I would have to agree with you, not much special about a Miata. Unless maybe you were looking at like their only RF Club showroom model, then I could understand them not wanting to give out test rides to every local yokel. But even then they should be able to put you in a basic one to test drive. GRC and Type R are both much more exclusive and should be harder to test drive lol.

I remember when I was shopping for my WRX, I really wanted to test drive the Focus RS. No dealers would play ball, since it was pretty fresh from release, and they all had an ADM of $10-15k on them. Most of em wanted me to put down a deposit just for a test drive lol. Hard pass

Don't even get me started on Porsche allocation business model lol. A new owner can't even buy some of their top trims, you have to have owned more basic models, then hope you get lucky enough for an allocation or pay an extra fee for one.

 

I much prefer that, lol. I hate being jumped on the second I step on their property. What I dislike most about the sales guys lately is their lack of knowledge. I shouldn't walk onto a lot and know 10x more about their vehicles than they do. Same goes for bikes/atvs/sxs, or hell, lug nuts the other day at Auto-Zone. If you don't know what you're talking about, stop trying to sell me stuff.

 

I fully agree for the most part, but I also don't want to have to spend 5-10 minutes looking for someone who works there lol. And it would be nice to be greeted. lately it seems like I show up to a dealership and all the sales guys start trying to look busy or finding places to be so they don't have to help.

But yeah it's amusing when you do get to talking, and they start talking out of their ass.
