Posted this in the other thread for 255/80/17s but hoping this gets extra visibility

Anybody running 8.5" wide wheels on a 255/80/17? Wondering if there's any issues airing down to 15~PSI or not

I am, I’ve been down to the teens but not quite that low. Once it’s wheelin season up here I’ll give it a try. Not sure when your planning on making your decision

How low do you air down to? I always go below 18 PSI, sometimes 14 for the stuff we run

I have KMC 718 rims in 17x8.5 inch. Lowest I’ve gone to is 10 psi in snow and 14 psi on dirt/rocks. No issues unseating a bead or burping any air.

for sure. esp since in person he seemed like a potential walking trust fund (picking up odd jobs) but i might have misinterpreted all that
...turns out he has like 3 doctorate degrees in finance/economics/lawyer and just took a less obvious path with that lol
cant judge a book by the cover, they were cool though!

I'm out, I've been running 235/85 16 Duratracs for nearly 15 years, before that KO2's. I've been getting them siped to run year round for work. Could be fresh snow, could be a thick layer of ice, could be deep sloppy muck ... all the same day on drill trails pushed in yesterday.

Now I'm mainly doing highways and FSR's. New tires today, 265/75 16 (same 32 as before) Michelin Defender LTX MS. First impression on the hwy, needs a tad more steering input (1" wider?), run smoother (no surprise) and quieter (I think its the first time I've heard the engine, especially the direct injection kicking in on acceleration.

They look like old man tires but friends working in the bush also use them without issue.

Damn Michelin has such restricted size availability.

I've seen this thread on the front page off and on since it started. Sort of jumped in and out here and there to see what people are commenting.

I'm considering a skinny tire for my *gasp* JKU wrangler next time I have to put tires on. Right now I have 35 x 12.5 load range E BFG KO2s. Not my favorite tire, but that's what was on the thing when I bought it. They. Are. Heavy.

I also have wheel spacers to accommodate my 2.5" metalcloak lift. I have 5.13 gears, and what I think I want is a 37 x 10.5 or 11.5. I have a Rubicon, so I've got the D44 axles -- and yes, jeep people, I know that the front D44 is basically a D30 but 30 spline -- I don't think anybody makes a really skinny 37 though lol. Will probably go with a 35 x 10.5 if I can find something in that size that I like.

My jeep is the last year of the 3.8l engine, and it's a gutless wonder even though it technically makes more power than the 4.0 from the TJ/YJ years. I think if I can get a taller but lighter (or comparable weight) tire, I'd go that route. I like the skinny tires; I'm wide enough already for the wheeling I do with my heep.

If I can get some skinny 37's that weigh about as much as the 35's I'm running now, I can probably get away with my 5.13 gears and stock axle shafts. Not quite in the mood to re-gear again and go chromolly just to run 37's. If I'm doing that, I'll just put the damn thing on tons

Those nittos are fantastic tires. Nearly all I sell in 35s and 37s.

Thank you for that information. It made me look it up and I just discovered this tire is available in a 35 11.5 r16. Which is skinner and taller than my current 295 75 16. It seems like a good option for my next set up.

Can anyone tell me if Falken Wildpeak 255/70R16 tires will rub on a 1st gen Tacoma on stock suspension?

Upgraded two weeks ago. Went from a 235/85-16 falken wildpeak at3w to a set of 255/80-17 cooper s/t maxx's on 4runner sr5 takeoff wheels (17×7, +13offset iirc). Have a slight amount of rub with a full lock turn with suspension compression (like braking into a turn downhill) but it's just barely brushing the oem mud flap.

I've never run a r/t, but I did have a set of kenda mt's years ago on an xj so I wasn't sure how noisy an r/t tire would be.

Surprisingly so far, they're actually quieter than my at's.

Change in track width with the offset change is noticeable. Truck feels much more planted on the road. Have about 1800 miles so far, they're quieter than my falkens at 80mph. Hit heavy rains and standing water last week in NC, didn't skip a beat.

They look awesome. Are you experiencing the infamous pull to the right? I’ve always wanted to give the ST Maxx’s a try, that’s the only thing that keeps me from getting a set.

The pull to the right isn't limited to the ST Maxx. It's just as noticeable with my Kenda Klevers. Once you get used to driving on the highway with the wheel clocked to 11:30 or so, it becomes no big deal.

About 2200 miles now, haven't really noticed any pull. I think I might have knocked a balancing weight loose on one, I get a bit of a weird wandering sensation at 55ish mph. Can't feel it any faster or slower than that.
