I had to take some of the tumblers out of mine in my 98. I can take the keys out when it is running! handy sometimes but it's a matter of time before it just gets worse. I would like to find another one as well.

I posted about this, that’s the upper control ignition arm? The only part I needed was stamped 7850 1 and it’s made of zinc and snaps in two. Easy to fix if that part exists, probably take 30-60 minutes and maybe change the ignition cylinder at the same time (but those new keys won’t work on the door unless you move the tumblers around, beyond my ability).

My problem is that upper arm attaches to your steering column and is not cheap ($6-700 plus shipping) and looks too labor intensive for me. Did not want one from the junkyard since it’ll break again and I’m in Hawaii. If people even will ship here I need the right part the first time.

I ended up going with what looks like the same part, the ignition barrel rod that if you remove, you can use a flat head to start the ignition.

Cost: $140 and it’s still the wrong part (7850 2 p/n is all I could find, original says 7850 1). Had to modify it because the lock springs or tabs pushed out too far, so I removed one and got it in. The cylinder and barrel rod wouldn’t align properly until I did that.

So, it works now, but no steering wheel lock. I posted about this on here a few weeks ago but can’t find my post and no one had the answer. I guess that’s a good outcome and don’t know if it’ll help you. I guess maybe it’s better that way, I’ve had the steering column lock and was stuck for an hour until I finally freed it.

I nearly went for a push button start and install it in that pos control arm.
