i don't know how you're not letting this project creep to "while i'm in there, i should replace _______" levels.

i would have new cv axles, replacement axle bearings, a full poly bushing kit, and at least clean and refresh the entire front diff, if not install a locker in it "while i'm in there"...

Well? If it ain't broke, no sense in fixing it.

1st gen trucks do not have a habit of wearing out front wheel bearings and they are a bitch to replace. Your 10k HF press isn't gonna move them. They getting left alone.

2nd, this truck has manual hubs. It's a pain to access the axle nut. I don't want to screw around with doing that double jam nut bull shit to remove the lock out hub bolts.

The half shaft axles are fine with no cracks in the boots that I noticed. No need to mess with those.

A locker would be nice, but I think it would be counter productive. The manual hubs are a very weak link in the 4x4 system. I'm not gonna purposely stress those hubs unnecessarily.

I do find myself looking into the 2.7 superchargers, though.

This is my wife's truck. It is a 2.7 L motor with 132k miles. She doesn't drive it much, but she loves it. It was her 1st 4x4. She said she would never drive a 2wheel drive vehicle again.

I like how little space it takes up in our house garage.

It looks nice, so does the truck.

Hopefully i got most of the gas out. It's impossible to syphon out thru the filler with the baffles blocking the path, but you can go in thru the vent line with a 1/4 drain line. Takes a while, but works just fine.

Gas gauge said just under 1/2 a tank. I got 5.25 gallons out.

can always dump a couple brake cleaner cans into it to dissolve whatever is left, then purge with air

Tank wire brushed and degreased. Took a while.

I don't care what you think, I am too much of a chicken to use the angle grinder with the wire brush cup to clean up the surface rust.

All afternoon with the hand brass brush cleaning things up and it turned out fine.

Painted up with rust converting paint. Should be good for another 25 years.

The rubber pads are glued to the tank, so I had to work around them.

    I'm happy.

I actually thought about attaching the wire brush to my Sawzall. Of course that idea didnt hit me until I was almost done.

Those wire brush wheels for angle grinders can be dangerous AF. Had to use one Saturday at work on a chute that had dried paint all over it. If it wasn't for the required arc flash pants I have to wear, my legs would have been impaled by a million wires

Jalousie windows has glass louvres and you'd typically see them in Florida or Southern California back in the 50s - 60s. They don't seal and isn't something you'd typically see in Michigan. But I'm intrigued - I love Jalousie windows. I went through all the pages hoping to see them, but it looks like you keep your garage window mostly covered. The glimpse I saw of the top looked like casement windows. If they are Jalousie, where did you get them? I haven't seen them in 30+ years.

I prolly used the wrong description. I'm not a carpenter that deals with that stuff daily.

    Love the screen name, BTW.

    Lol.

i don't know that they offer a brass bristle option though. most appear to use stiffer steel bristles.

I wasn't aware they even had that feature. Cool find!

I was just gonna use a couple hose clamps to a brass, wire brush to an old blade.

In my mind I think it would have worked for the small amount of surface rust I needed to deal with.

Again, I didn't think of this until I was almost done.

i knew of it mostly from my days of trolling home depot and burning time...

spyder came out with one of the original versions, with a price to match. i've never gotten the impression that it ever sold very well.

Axle removed. Gonna take all day cleaning this up.

Thought long and hard about taking all the hardware off the axle. Ended up just leaving it intact. With only 130k miles, the leaf springs were fine, so no need to replace.

Wow, those springs would have some serious flex in them before the factory overloads took up any slack.

3 hours of wire wheeling and hand wire brushing.

    My hands are numb.

I was able to get a coat of paint on the thing.

Paint sure makes things look nice!
