Hi all I have a stupid idea but hear me out.

I was thinking about air ride seats that on semi trucks. And I know space is limited vertically on the Tacoma.

but what if….. what if we put in like a rubber bump stop? As in a piece of rubber not too hard and not too soft between the seat frame and the body pannel.

The rubber is just a donut shape to allow a piece of threaded rod to attach to both the seat rail and the threads on the body.
This allows the seat to compress and uncompress the rubber donught.
I don’t imagine this doing much for big hits, but perhaps it can reduce some of the higher frequency vibrations and rumbling.

this is just a theory tho, as I don’t trust adding extra length to the seat bolts/threaded rod will work in a car crash. As it will experience enormous dynamic sheer forces and its acting as a cantilever at that which is probably the worst of the worst.
Cantilever + Dynamic Sheer load + speed at car crash = seat ejection

Looks like you answered your own question

If I'm picturing what you're thinking correctly....I wouldn't do it for the very reason you said. I have the back of my seat jacked up iabout 1/2 - 3/4" with washers/longer bolts...and I almost didn't do that. Raising/extending things enough for any kind of meaningful compression/suspension seems like a problem waiting for the right reason to happen, IMO

There are a number of brands that make suspension seats. Off the top of my head, Corbeau, PRP and Mastercraft. Might be worth looking into.

Thanks all, I just wanted to share a silly idea I had.
That I know is not worth the risk, of life.

But perhaps one day in the future when the technology and finances allows it we can implement something like seat suspension.

Yes I have, it’s a neat idea that could use refinement to a smaller package.
I had the pleasure of trying one with a friend and it’s not bad.
But the leg room in the back makes the dual cab not worth the overall length of the vehicle. if it’s in an extra cab Mabey.
