Well, Mr Smarty-Pants know-it-all, I live in WI. It gets damned cold here in the winter. (Thanks to you Canucks not keeping your cold air up there!) I've never heard of a person or animal dying of carbon monoxide in a running vehicle that wasn't in a closed garage, or stuck in a snowbank. There's a reason your exhaust is routed out behind your rear axle: to keep the exhaust fumes as far from the cab as possible.

 

I spent the last 13 years working at a job where I ate lunch outside, in my truck, running because it was either too hot or too cold. I never came close to dying. Maybe if I had the vehicle in the garage, or stuck in the snow bank, with the air exchange open. That would be the only way I see it happening.

Same here, I have spent many 20f to 100f days in my vehicle with the windows up and the heat or A/C running full blast and the vehicle running...

I have never heard of a person or animal having ANY issues running their vehicle while inside the vehicle with the windows fully closed (up) for an hour at a time with the vehicle outside of a building...

 

How about links to articles about the dangers of CM poisoning when a vehicle is outside a building???

If in a closed up space such as a garage with the doors closed, then yes I 100% agree, but out in the open air, I have never heard of it happening...

And I am often stopped at a traffic light surrounded by ICE vehicles longer than I leave my dogs in the vehicle... Sitting at a traffic light is much worse than sitting in a parking space normally...

 

I changed the oil and made a huge mess. I hate these filters but I can’t stomach the price of the adapter. Guess I’ll just keep cleaning up. If anyone has a trick to better drain the filters I’m all ears gents. Oh and rotated the tires. Pretty even wear. Think I may get another year out of them.

Sounds like you're enjoying Texas. I'm headed that way tomorrow. I've only driven through the top of the state (Amarillo on the 40) on my way to NC last summer.
I'm in NM for the evening and rolled past 80k on the odometer this afternoon.

 

Are my expectations that unrealistic?

 

Motivx removal/install wrench ... grabs the filter housing at the strongest point. They sell a tool you put on the "drain port" for the filter, two independently working halves. Loosen the bottom half from the part that goes in the filter housing, then unscrew the silver base-cap, then screw in the part that goes into the housing with the hose attached, then re-tighten the back half of the adapter in to release the oil into the tube. Then loosen that back half again and remove the drain adapter ... filter should be empty. https://www.motivxtools.com/

Get a Fumoto valve for the drain pan ... open the little lever enough to just start the oil draining, then when you have the pan under the valve open full and wait 10 minutes. Then put the level back into "lock". https://www.fumotousa.com/

Last one I did was virtually clean for both filter and pan.

 

Well, there's your choice. I prefer not having to clean up a mess every time I change oil. It's worth the price of admission.

This. I just recently did my first oil change since I took ownership using the whole motivx kit and it was great. Along with the metal oil filter housing.. Excited for future oil changes using the fumoto 360 I installed.

 

Ok I see what you mean. I’ve got the housing socket tool but not the one that threads into the bottom of the housing to drain the filter. I’ve been using the little plastic guy that comes with the new filters and that thing sucks.

check the pics i posted here. the motivX is worth the money especially for the canister drain tool. combined with the fumoto, its easy with no mess.

 

Hopefully your AC doesn't die too, my truck just hit 80k when it died.
