Does anyone know why my practically new (20k miles) Tacoma would be backfiring sometimes on startup? It’s like every once in a while and totally is random could happen twice a day, or could go without it backfiring for months. Did I get a lemon? Maintence is always a priority for me i’ve never missed a thing. Any help?

OP, does the the backfire sound like it's coming from the exhaust or intake (hood area)?

Are you sure it's a backfire and not a misfire?

It's very rare to see a modern fuel injected engine backfire.

My 2021 has made a small popping sound from somewhere in the exhaust under the truck since I have had it. It only happens on startup and not all the time. Very rarely (maybe once a month). Truck runs flawlessly and no lights. I have 35K on the odometer btw

I think it is something to do with the air pump that comes on when you first crank it up. The older 2trfe trucks had this issue also. I dont think it hurts anything though.
