A few months ago I posted about getting my '09 Tacoma ready to drive from Michigan to Belize. To re-cap, I quit my job, sold our house and 95% of our worldly possessions, and said F-it were out of here.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/getting-my-gen-2-taco-ready-for-belize.856538/

Well I glad to report that after 6 days and 3006 miles we safely made it to our new home in Belize. The Taco did great despite the Mexican roads trying to shake it apart and the Mexican truck drivers trying to run us off the road. We did have one run in with a corrupt Mexican police officer just across the US/Mexico border shaking us down for a bribe due to a B.S. traffic violation. Cost me 500 pesos ($27 USD) to get moving again. Got stopped two more times just to have our paper worked checked. We hired a Belizean national coyote to help get us through Mexico and deal with all the paperwork at both border crossing points.

Our route took from Grand Rapids Michigan to St Louis MO, McAllester OK, San Antonio TX, Los Indios MX (border crossing point), Tampico MX, Villahermosa MX, Chetumal MX (border crossing point), to our new home in Hopkins Belize.

Now the fun begins. We are renting a place in village just down the road from where our new house is currently under construction. Lots to keep me busy in the months to come.

Waiting to get inspected by Belizean Customs.

Congratulations on having a safe trip. Good to hear. Now enjoy that Belizian warm weather. I’ll be envious in the winter.

I wish you the best and I hope you will keep us posted in this thread so we can follow your journey. Don't start a new post, just add on to this one. I also congratulate you on your decision to step out of the box. Most of us wimps would never do that.

This is awesome man. I have so many questions I hope you don’t mind. If you do just ignore me lol.

how did you even find a “coyote” that seems so sketchy?

Will you continue to work remotely or are you guys done working?

for the more intrusive questions is the land expensive as well as the house? I saw your rendering and land pictures both look very nice. Just curious on cost.

my wife and I are on our own no real family much so have considered something like this

we also went to Belize on a cruise. My wife really likes Honduras. West bay especially.

    keep us posted!
