Wow! Mike this is awesome!! And what a beautiful boat she is!!!

You know for years people have always told me that the two best days of owning a boat are the day you buy it and the day you sell it. I tell you what, those people are idiots! Every day you take that thing out, the moment you pull away from the dock on a new adventure is the best day of owning a boat.

I went out for a bicycle ride this morning from the Kentlands area, thinking I'd do maybe 10 to 15 miles in total. Yeah, about that. At about the 6 mile mark I came upon a group of riders changing a flat tire and offered my assistance. They had the tire well under control, but asked if I'd like to ride with them to meet up with the rest of their group (a group which rides to raise money for wounded veterans) at a coffee shop in Poolesville. I figured, okay, scratch the original plan, make it 12 out and 12 back, so 24 miles.

When I met up with the rest of the group they asked if I'd like to ride with them back to the coffee shop where they met up in Kentlands, which obviously was my plan anyway, so I agreed. This is where Mr. Murphy stepped in; what was a 12 mile ride out turned into a 23 mile ride back; today's 35 mile ride is the longest ride I've done since 1990, and yeah, I'm feeling it.

 

I got gas money !!!

 

Just got back home after a day of fishing on the lake with the wifey… not much biting but some bluegills. Nothing even worth a photo. But being out on the water is what it’s all about, just having fun!

 

Dang now that’s a lot of miles!!

 

Some interesting observations from today's ride:

• At 68 years old, I was the oldest of the group
• At 43 years old, my bicycle was at least 40 years older than the next oldest bike
• At close to 30 pounds, including the heavy(ish) touring wheels and touring racks, my bike was probably at least 5 pounds heavier than the next closest bike, and probably more like 10 pounds heavier than most
• And last but not least, I was able to pull harder than all but two or three of the fastest (and much younger) cyclists in the group.

Disclaimer; I just got a text from the group, tomorrow's ride will be 42 miles; I think the better part of valor would be for me to go for a nice easy solo ride tomorrow.

 

Wow! Those are some impressive stats.

I could go 4 a 2 mile ride but not 42 miles
