So you’re going to call 911 on some dude who parked over the line? Whaddya think the dispatcher will say? Plus where I come from snitches get stitches. Regardless, if it was the only stall left and I needed to park, I’d go somewhere else and walk. While at the business I might say something to their management about the assfuckery parking out there. It’s their property they can deal with it or lose my business. I ain’t calling the cops over parking spot

 

No non-emergency/bylaw enforcement line where you live?

 

They got tweakers and other shit to deal with. If I called the local sheriffs office (that’s for non emergency calls) They would “send someone out” but chances are they wouldn’t do anything. I live on the west coast here and they don’t care about small stuff. Had some local kids tearing down my driveway on a go kart they built years ago when I first built the place. Course I threatened them and all but then called the sheriffs. He goes over there and comes back says they didn’t see the private road and no trespassing signs and I should go over there and be friends and neighborly with them. I said fuck that and they can ride their shit elsewhere without tearing up my gravel. Of If I see someone asshole parking I might say something to them or might not if I encountered them in the parking lot because to me that’s not a big deal and just a head shaker.

 

No, what Neil said ^^^ It's not an emergency. The Police are understaffed sure, they are everywhere, but that doesn't mean the ones on duty are always busy. I see the traffic division in the city near me driving around twiddling there thumbs, having parking lot union meetings. Eventually they will have the time to check it out, and hopefully find the asshat parked as he is and write him an appropriate ticket. The police don't see everything, they often need the publics assistance to point them in the right direction to find the problems in society.

 

Taking a photo and mocking the person online is good and fair game. But these people who walk around parking lots playing "parking checker" - like get a life. If you're calling 911 over parking, you're an idiot.

Notify the store management and let them deal with it if it really bothers you that much. If the person is illegally parked in a handicapped spot, let the store manager figure it out.

Calling a police non emergency number is probably too Karen for me, but if you really feel the need go head. Most suburban police departments have PLENTY of time for this silly shit.

I've watched thousands of hours of police activity channel - I've seen plenty of non emergency police calls where 10 cops show up for something that needs 1 or 2 cops.

Urban/large city police departments - probably don't have enough resources for your parking complaint.

in my town, there's no non emergency police line ONLY 911. which is ridiculous. so if I have a non emergency i have to call 911, tell them THIS IS NOT AN EMERGENCY, and use a resource dedicated for emergencies to report a non emergency.

For sure. I live in a town a few thousand. the cops sit and play on their phones all day in the same locations every day. esp on private property - which sure, they probably have permission to be there, but if I was the property owner, I'd tell them they are trespassed.

Nuanced people who uphold their rights are labeled cop haters. Heaven forbid you criticize public servants for ANYTHING.

Suburban cops are not understaffed, and have plenty of time to respond to ridiculous parking complaints. If your local police department is running radar, they have plenty of time for your karen complaints.

 

99/100 people don't give 2 shits about someone parking like an asshole enough to call the cops, you and me. and even if you think someone is illegally parked in a handicapped spot, you better have your facts straight b/c some people forget their placard, or lost it, whatever. then again, I am not a self appointed neighborhood cop.

i know for a fact they have seen it/drove right by it because i watched them
understaffed --> real problems

lucky you to have police with time you perceive as free time
you realize those meetings have value to them and serve a function in how they operate, right??
you realize that even cops need a break sometimes during shift and might want to stand around and talk, right??
they are people too - with an extremely challenging job, have some respect for that


and they don't need the 'public's assistance' to do their jobs

I think there's a time and place for public's assistance, it's an isolated example but the hit and run a few years ago near my house when I was outside doing yardwork, I saw the person who fled and got the description of them/car/etc. But I don't disagree that parking is a different animal of course.

Reminds me of the days plowing for my store. I might have placed gently some snow in the same fashion of those carriages. if the owners got pissed, I would tell them I saved at least $65.00 for the tow truck fee. Signs had private lot signs etc. I had no repeat offenders. . I was a nice guy until I was not.

My first car accident as an inexperienced teenager, at 16, was someone was parked in the fire lane illegally, I came around the end of the island, and pushed a gas a little too hard and slid into their illegally parked car.

Personally, I thought they were partially at fault but the cops for some reason didn't see it that way.

 

People don’t care about the rules or etiquette anymore. Kid walked all the way down my driveway the other night to knock on my door and ask who does my crawlspace pest control. He had a iPad strapped over his shoulder and looked like a newer version of the old Kirby salesman. I said did you not see the no trespassing and private drive signs on your way down my driveway? He said he didn’t see them. I said let’s assume I’m not a dumbass and walk back the way you came and learn to read warning signs. They might save your life someday. He said sorry and walked back down my driveway shaking his head like I was too harsh. He wasn’t the first. Jahovas to other door knocker peddlers have done so in the past. The last 2 I was in my underwear and had to put my house robe on and hold my dog from getting by me. People are going to do what they want and I doubt that what I told that young man would sink in and he was directed to ignore no trespassing signs by his slime ball boss. People who park over the line don’t give a fuck about your opinion of them and go ahead and call the cops they’ll do it in the next parking lot because the skinny ass stalls so the property owner can comply with code so I’m not buying a compact car to go there. I’ll just take up more room for my half ton Chevy and need more room to get in and out so fuck all you’s who don’t like it.

That’s probably what that dude was going through. Maybe he was just tired of all the compact spots and can’t see that well or whatever but dad always said other people doing abnormal stuff in their vehicles might be having a bad day. You never know so the best path is to go around and avoid them. Ya never know what their day is like.

 

Spittin facts. Another good reason to have No Trespassing signs is for cops who like to violate rights. Just watched a video on Civil Rights Lawyer a few weeks ago, cops went onto private property because a black guy was sitting in his beater car on his own property. They arrested the guy. Totally insane, and in Florida of course.

The sales guy def saw your signs, he just decided to disrespect you and didn't think you'd mind. Society has gone way down hill and much of it due to social media.

I was in Denver 2 years ago, and a woman held the door for me, as we were walking into REI. I almost fainted. I thought I was one of the few to do the same for people following me in to a store or whatever.

I go to a biscuit kitchen every Saturday morning, there's like 5 people jammed into this small building busting their asses, and having worked at Hardees (for a day) - I know what they were going through, so I dropped a card with a $100 for them to the cashier and said this was to show my appreciation for you. People need to go back to appreciating the small shit.

Agree with you on the compact car spaces. There's a ton of them in my office building parking structure. The vast majority of people in the building make good money and drive midsize SUVs, large SUVs, and larger sedans. Like you said, complying with some bullshit codes, they don't write the codes to match reality or sanity, they write the codes to be annoying, and try and change behavior. The vast majority of people who make good money aren't buying Mazda 2s, Aveos, and Fiat 500s.

Exactly, difference between some bellend parking on the line versus the significant damage done to the late model Rav4 the other people owned, and heaven forbid if they were injured too yikes. Fortunately that wasn't the case at least to my knowledge.

Can't argue that in general re the etiquette/respect thing. I actually wish someone would come to my house to discuss religion with me..I'd make sure to just happen to have to scratch my arm and push my sleeve up so they would see the Satanic tat I have..giggle
