Has anybody used these rear suspension components

I have a 2011 Tacoma TRD Sport V6 Manual trans. It has the 2 spring with overload leaf pack. I checked and there is no active recall on springs nor was it ever replaced. I am going to be installing a Ranch brand cap and figure I might get a little sag with the extra weight.
I have purchased set of National Drive train AAL 36" helper springs because I figured the longer ones would be better with only 2 leaves. My old 2001 Tacoma had three leaves and sagged with any added weight so I added the shorter 3 pack AAL from Wheeler and it worked great. I also ordered Bilstein 5100's for any added lift but I am thinking these helper springs may only stiffen it up a bit.I also ordered some 2.5 degree shims in case I get more lift than anticipated.
Also I was looking at Suma Springs for towing maybe 3500lbs at most (350lbs tongue weight). Has anybody used anything like this? They are not supposed to make contact unless an over loaded condition occurs. They add 1000lbs and can be compressed 50% of the 5" height.National drivetrain 36 inch Add a Leaf Helper Spring 1.5 inch.jpg SSR-610-40 SumoSprings.png Sumo Springs.jpg

I have blue sumo springs (bump stops)
Initially I added them with my stock leaf pack (new recall).

They were nice at first but I realised that the main issue holding me back was the leaf pack itself. As any load on the stock leaf made the rear sag a lot.

The sumo springs were making constant contact with the frame rail. Resulting in a stiff standard ride, and especially stiff when going over speed bump like objects. For example, it would jolt the rear when going up a bump, but then dampen on the way down the bump.
It’s was as if the sumo was expecting a heavy load but there was none there.

I have now replaced to the deaver stage 1 and retained the sumo.
Sumo is no longer making contact at ride height.
And with the new leaf pack it made the ride a lot better and it doesn’t sag when I throw a twig in the bed.

I had the exact same setup as you posted in the photos

I guess I will see what height and stiffness I obtain from the helper springs. I figure at least getting another 36" leaf in there should help but who knows.Plus the Bilsteins might help a little overall with ride quality.

How much of an air gap do you have above the Suma with your new springs? How do they ride when they make contact now?

I am trying the add a leafs because I had such good luck with them (even though this is a different spring)on my last truck. I could fill the front half of the bed with fresh cut maple firewood and it wouldn't sag at all and I could travel safely at highway speeds.

I’m sorry I’m not familiar with installing a longer leaf spring and how that entails.

But the shocks won’t help if there is another force in its way (sumo spring) as in constantly making contact. At ride height.

I have attached a photo of my before and after. These are all at ride height.

The new leaf pack is very nice. Not too hard or too soft. When going over bumps the sumo spring does not make contact with the frame rail unless I bottom out on a hard hit (empty).
The sumo spring is almost invisible.

With load, approx 300lbs or sometimes more. The sumo spring comes in handy to help. But it still does not make contact with the frame rail at ride height.

I initially thought a AAL will be fine but my truck is for both daily, work, and off-roading so it will see lots of variable load.

And I have a soft topper not a heavy cap mind you, but I weight the truck recently and I’m over 400lbs from stock weight.

So my recommendation is to just cry once and get a new leaf pack. You don’t ever have to think about this subject again if you add more stuff.

I have logging roads up by my property but I just drive slowly over them occasionally carrying a canoe so it is mostly on road. Wheeler off road carries an identical 36" AAL helper. The last truck I added the AAL helper spring pack to worked excellent for off road and on road load carrying purposes. The extra length shocks will be needed if get the lift out of the helper anyway I believe, plus it will be a general upgrade. Here is a video of the installation of this 36" helper spring. I wont get the Sumo unless I have the necessary ride height so it installs with clearance. Thanks for the info on the Sumo.
