At 98k I had my shop install new plugs. Pricey, but still way cheaper than the local dealer.

After getting it back I noticed nice sparkling clean bolt hole back by the notoriously "difficult" to get to plug. Please see picture.

Am I correct that this is just something that was covered up by the foam insulation? Or, did my shop leave something off? (If it is just an accessory hole for something not installed on my truck, does anyone know what it is for?)

    Thanks so much.

I believe that threaded hole is used on the Highlander.

Just curious OP, what did you end up paying to have plugs done if you don't me asking?

    My Stealership wanted $770.

I find plugs from Toyota are 17-22 each. Labor… no idea.

on the threaded hole, it’s too clean. You’re missing something

Pretty sure that is just the foam insulation. I've got an Off-Road so my engine bay isn't exactly the same. Mine is torn too but still there, ha, for now.

You are correct, it is behind the foam on my truck too. All OK.

Sorry for the delay. I just saw this.

I got by at a bit more than $500. But, I supplied the plugs, about $620 total. My shop pretty much only uses OEM parts but the local dealer — there is only one in the state (Alaska) typically runs ~20% above MSRP on parts. I can get stuff mailed to me from CA that is 20% cheaper than MSRP.

BTW, the dealer here wanted $960!
