Ok. I was backing out of a drive while talking on the phone. Started to get in the ditch. Pressed the 4x4 button pulled forward. Pressed button again and it won’t come out. Finished ( drove about 50 miles in 4x4) drove home light went but when backing in it’s binding up when the wheel is turned. So it’s still in. How do I bypass the solenoid?

Verify if the front driveshaft spins freely or not.

You can manually disengage the ADD at the actuator by removing the actuator and sliding the engagement gear to the right. Left position is engaged/locked.

This happened Saturday. I just started it and it jerked like when you start something in gear. Jacked up front end front wheels spun as did drive shaft. Problem corrected itself. Does 4 low use the same system?

Light on cluster still on? 4L uses the same system. You made sure the push button 4wd work by performing a continuity test? In the connector?

Push button ADD has two common failure: tcase actuator or clamshell actuator. You can remove the driveshaft at the tcase and spin the shaft connected to the clamshell to see if it spins freely. Do the same to the tcase flange. If one spins freely, the issue is with the other end. Meaning is the tcase flange spins freely but the clamshell isn’t, the lock collar in the clamshell tube is still engaged. If that’s the case, more likely, the actuator to the tube isn’t working.
