Not to beat this topic to absolute death, but I (finally) got pics. Not great, bc I can't jack it up right now, but a visual at least.

The pan I need is flatter than what I'm finding online.

Definitely looks like someone has already mucked with that oil pan. That sealant used is not factory. I may have missed it in earlier posts but any background info on this - what happened?

Apologies for the delayed reply -- definitely mucked with: that's my mechanic's handywork. Short version: he told me the plug "suddenly went bad" and wouldn't seal. To give me time to buy a new tank, he put epoxy over the existing plug.

That said, thanks to the opinions and assistance I was happy to get in this thread, I posted in the WTB thread and Jon64l saved the day, finding my proverbial needle in a haystack!

Wamucc, yeah, this def happens. After so many oil changes the threads can wear out, but most of the time it’s from the plug getting cross-threaded or overtightened at some point. You don’t usually need a whole new pan though—an oversized drain plug or a thread repair kit (like a Helicoil) usually fixes it without replacing the whole thing.
