...you really need to consider whatever environment you are in, and take appropriate proactive, and then regular measures to follow, to counter those challenges. ...I am also in new York.....western new York, and my truck in an 09', purchased in 08' and looks nothing like that, though I had it krowned (was carwelll earlier on here, and then same ownership, became krown, same type product) before its 1st winter, and salted roads, and have gotten under every fall and treated any rusted surfaces with corroseal to convert the rust, painted over that several days, week, later, and then my annual krownfor another $100.00. ...having done this from the start, the time I spend prepping it prior to the annual known spray is probably 2 hours or less each year, so approximately 2 hours, and $100 annually, and then late spring, post salt, retouch any rusted surfaces with the brush on rust converter, which is another less than an hour.. wash, rinse, repeat, and while I do have some rust in areas, the frame rails from front to back have none at all, and with a limited decontamination around the wheel wheels which I have rigged' up an extension of my arm with disposable small brush type applicator to get my treatment in those seams every fall before krown. ...it is doable, and my frame won't be what does in my truck when the time comes, unless it is from blunt force trauma., aka, an accident...
...and I only shares this to help with your next one, as you can make a huge difference, for not a huge time or money investment, assuming you do not have disabilities which prevent the work beneath the truck.
