Have never experienced this on any vehicle that I have owned. Any idea if Toyota would give factory assistance to have the roof and hood repainted?

Unfortunately it is not uncommon on these trucks. 8 years seems pretty early, but I highly doubt Toyota will help you as you are way out of the warranty period. You must live in a sunny place and park outside?

That's pretty early, but there's little chance the beancounters would ever do a courtesy warranty repair on paint fade.

That's pretty extreme fade. Wow. Mine is 6 years old and looks like new. I hope this isn't what we are in for.

They would ultimately say you did it marring of the paint by putting stuff on the roof, or somehow you would be to blame.

It's funny, you can see the spray lines perfectly.

[not really funny, that's some thin garbage.]

Is the rest of the truck paint good to include the hood? If so, getting it resprayed to match would be worth it if the truck is in good shape. Paint costs are atrocious though....................

Once it starts rusting................, there isn't any rust treatment on the roof like many of the other body panels have and it's pretty thin to boot.

I have already painted the roof on my 2017. Not even 30K miles yet. Terrible paint on these trucks. I fear I will need to do the front hood as well at some point.

Same thing with my Son’s 2015 in the same color. In fact I sanded it down and repainted it with spray can touch up paint last weekend. Looks good. We did the hood scoop insert as a disaster check. Don’t think I’ll do the entire hood as it won’t look as nice (easier inspection/more light reflection. Not bad for 55 bucks.

Interesting fact: I have been through manufacturing classes developed and taught by toyota which focus on problem solving. One of the topics we covered was a paint defect.

When some of the paint defects started to appear, they problem solved one of the issues to a cologne one of the painters was wearing. Chemicals in the paint were reacting with a chemical in his cologne and not adhearing to the parts properly.

Sorry this doesnt help with your post but I always think about that when I see toyota paint defects.

Stinks OP. Have you kept this truck in a garage, and have you applied wax, sealants, etc at any time?

my be cheaper and quicker to have the roof and hood wrapped in a close color match.
