and, if you want change your mind, you will have to remove tires, install TPMS, remount tires, balance wheels and tires again.

Even In the interior of Alaska where I live, the OM TPM sensors of my wife's 2010 RAV4 V6 are working without any problems. Another set of 4 sensors (no idea which brand of sensors) were installed by TireRack in a set of winter tires (Blizzak) in 2011, and these too haven't given us any trouble. The 4 sensors in the tires of my son's 2013 Tundra were fine until one of the local tire shops replaced the tires a couple of years ago. Soon after installing the new tires on the OM aluminum wheels, the left front sensor started malfunctioning, but the other three are working fine. When have the sensor replaced at the tire shop they will probably install a Maxis sensor.

I solved the entire problem by throwing mine away and installing a sticker over the idiot light. I carry a gauge and use as necessary, and in the last five years I've generally added maybe two pounds of air every six months to a year.

Thanks for all of the responses here. I did not change the sensors, and all is well.

Where can I buy replacement sensors for a 2014? I'd like to keep my stock wheels with the sensors as spares. When I mount the new wheels and tires id like to install new sensors. Thanks

I see they sell them on Amazon for $40 for a set of 4. They say they're pre-programmed for Toyota. Anyone have any experience with these? Are they direct replacement?

How do you use that gauge at 70 mph?

Sensors aren't meant to replace an air gauge. They are to warn you of a sudden tire deflation while driving. Twice in the last 20 years I've hit unseen debris in the road and punched sizeable holes in tires. The light coming on and gave me 15-20 seconds advance warning before the tire was completely flat. Just enough time to get off the road and onto the emergency lane. Probably preventing a bad accident. By the time the sensors come on the tire is already lower than I like. I still use a gauge on a regular basis.

Sensors TYPICALLY last 7-10 years but I've seen them die after 5 and I've seen them still working at 14. I've started replacing mine with sensors I bought from Amazon. Price varies between $40-$60 for a set of 4. I replace mine with every other set of tires which works out to about every 6-7 years. They are still working but any tire store will install new sensors at no extra cost if you bring them in when buying tires. I might or might not get them to last for a 3rd set of tires, but that's pushing things. If you wait until they die most charge $10-$15 each to install them. Effectively doubling the cost. I've put them in 3 vehicles now. All are still working fine after several years. Zero problems getting them installed.

Either way it costs less than 1 tank of gas every 6-7 years. If you can't afford that, you can't afford a truck
