My situation has changed a little and may be selling or trading my 2022 TRDOR as i might need the higer tow capacity if I decide to buy a new RV. Not definate yet. Took a new 2500 RAM with the 6.4 hemi for a test ride and liked it alot. My current Tacoma has 49k is blemish free inside and out with a paint matched cap. Same as new really with receipts for every 4k oil changes, diffs done everything ETC. No mods at all just a bolt on RAS system an Sumo's. Id love to have both trucks but its not in my budget. Dealership offered me $30500 in trade. Seems to be in line with KBB values. What would selling it privately bring? Is it even worth trying?

How many of those 49k miles were overloaded towing?

Honestly, everyone that will be replying here on price is going to be a guess. You will only know how much private party will fetch once the truck is sold.
No idea where you are at, if the color is desirable to the market, if someone is scared away by all the towing and your mods, if people can get cash to buy your truck with the economy…

Many dealers use black book to value vehicles (blackbook.com). Only you can justify if going through the process of selling on Craigslist or Marketplace and dealing with the flakes makes sense. You could also try one of the online car buying services.

Put those things on for sag due to the cap. Only actually towed a uhaul 1x with it. Did make 6 round trips Fla to NY which probably accounts for 18k of those miles. Understand buyers might not believe me or see it that way though.

IMO it is always worth trying to sell late model trucks private party. In the midwest, that truck can be traded in for roughly32k and about 35-38k selling private party. Check out NADA for private party sales in your area.

You can easily get a Vroom, Carvana and Carmax quote and if those are higher, leverage with the dealer selling the Ram.

How about looking on Auto Trader with 500-mile search radius of your location and seeing what trucks with similar vintage are selling at?

It’s funny to me when someone uses their truck for truck things it’s now worth less because truck things were done. That’s the point of the truck no?

Both are doing what you would buy a truck for. Which would be in better condition after 50,000 miles?

Yes I could put it up on Facebook marketplace and see what happens. Online I see people posting what they paid for tacomas 2019+ and its crazy. Seems like dealers are making tons of money low-balling trades and selling at a premium. Although I guess thats their job.

Selling private party these days is a definite risk. Just too many jack wagons out there and a higher risk of something bad happening. I will never do a private party sale again. I am willing (and can afford) to take less by trading it in or selling to a car broker like Carvana or Carmax.

    Be careful out there and...........................

But then again, what the hell do I know?

    Yeah.
I think most states only make you pay sales tax on the difference in purchase price and trade-in value. Not sure what you would be paying for the RAM, but assuming a minimum $25k difference at a 6.5% sales tax rate, that's $1,625 saved in sales tax if you trade it in. So if you think you can get $32.2k selling private, it's worth trying. If the difference is more, you need more selling it private. For me, the difference usually hasn't been enough to mess with selling private and I just do the easy trade-in.

Exactly. The Carmax number, higher or lower, is a data point.

I'm sure you can get at least 35k selling it yourself. Sell the shell separately for another 2k or more.

If it helps as a reference point, last week CarMax offered me $29,600 for my 2023 SR with 14,300 miles.

As of today, KBB says my 2017 TRD OR 4x4 with 81,700 is 26151-29644 private party and 25k-28,320 trade in.

Not bad at all for 9 years and almost 82k miles! It's been a damn good truck.

    This and that
I sold a car through vroom and they gave me a lot. But it was it the before times, when everything was shut down, and people were hugging each other in full body condoms.

FYI - A local Toyota Dealer in CT is asking 37K for a CPO '22 TRD Sport with 60K miles. That's about what I paid for in '21 for a new TRD OR.

I think the $32k is a fair trade. Would amount to nearly $35k if I sold it privately. I can handle losing $6k in 3+ years and nearly 50k miles. Gonna lose my ass on the RAM resale at some point though.
