Speaking of LS swaps, the algorithm served this up last night. I don’t want to know what this customer paid but I love the detail. And they nail retaining the factory bumper look while adding carriers on their builds. I will say I’d rather go this route than dump monies into a brand new one.

It got pushed down the line a little bit but a twin turbo 1FZ build is still in order for mine. Engine is confirmed TIRED now finally haha. And the OBDI computer is being a turd

Gonna make it a drag truck, or at least more street-oriented? This was the only lowered one I could find online haha

No low gear selection on the transmission seems like a miss for an off-roader. Is that a limitation of the 4L80E?

It's a limitation of his method of adaptation, it has manually selectable gears though. But lots of folks don't know how to adapt the shifter properly

Nah, I like it as a comfy old do-anything vehicle, it's engine is just getting kinda tired. Little rebuild and some new electronics should perk it back up

This kit needs a lot of cleanup, a fair amount of finishing and a little bit of reinforcing, but I think it’s got potential! It’s a lot more robust than I was expecting from the limited pics, and eliminating the LBJ is super interesting.

There are some not so pretty welds on it, but I am going to add to that… Hoping I can tinker it in to something road worthy! Worth a shot anyways.

Jon gave me a ton of extras (steering arms, uni-balls, bushings, misalignment spatter, limit straps, etc) because he’s a badass! Some for mock up but some I might actually be able to send for real.

Hoping I can find a build thread or other resource for this kit, so I can see how others have adapted it. I’d want to be very confident in its safety before I consider installing.

That'll wake it up nicely! Cup of twin turbo coffee. I sometimes forget that OBDII didn't start fully until what, 96/97? My 98 was 2. I haven't owned anything recently that was 1, is it just starting to get finicky? I can imagine it beginning to say nope to acting right.

Yeah Toyota's first model year of OBDII was 1995 but officially nothing had to have it until 1996 model year. The OBDI computer and control system on the LC is totally different from the 95+. It uses a VAFM instead of a MAF for air metering, it uses a banked injection trimming system with 123 and 456 being monitored by separate O2 sensors (honestly weirdly modern for the time, the later models put all 6 in one bank), different crank sensor arrangement in the distributor rather than physically on the crank itself, no catalyst monitoring at all, separate transmission control module (later models had it built into the ECU), Whole bunch of EVAP related differences, and all of the control strategies are different as well regarding warm-up, idle-up, learning etc. It's very primitive and deterministic, it can adapt but it cannot remember anything. I find it hard to believe the power numbers are identical between it and the OBDII variant actually.

Worst case scenario I do all the grunt work cleaning it up and then ship it out to @Speedytech7 :anonymous:

If you need help making it work lemme know, bet we can figure it all out. I'm interested in what it cycles out to and what it can run for a C/O.

Thank you! I will definitely take you up on that, I am certainly not smart enough to figure this out on my own… Jon offered his consulting services too

Damn that's a laundry list of disparate operations, no wonder it can turn into a train of headaches. It is wild that the power numbers are identical too, I never thought about that. Have you been driving it much or just waiting to jump in and work on it?

Yeah there's not much directly compatible engine control wise between the two. I love the ol girl but being a two-year engine control scheme makes it a nightmare to get repair parts for, even the O2 sensors are unobtanium now since it uses Titania O2 sensors vs the much more common Zirconia ones. It's just dying a slow death of dearth of parts. Thankfully I can solve that with a freshened wiring harness and a Haltech Elite 2000 that's sitting on the shelf. Convert to whatever parts I want to use going forward to make it easier.

I don't drive it much, pretty sure #6 is low on compression and #5 might be following closely behind. It starts/runs/drives just fine but it definitely feels weak, will go 70 just fine though still.
