While in Portland AirBnB I "borrowed" Why We Sleep (because I don't very well) Last night I tried leaving my feet out of the covers and drifted off pretty quick. Only to get a phone call about an hour later . . . Keeping the room cool and my eyes covered (dark) and don't do computers after dinner.

I haven’t read Ancient Law yet, but it sounds interesting! I’m currently reading something a bit lighter — just a mystery novel to unwind after work.

How did I miss this thread? I read everyday, currently working on this. A good glimpse into the leveraged buyout craze of the 1980s.

100%, and it’s only going to get worse as technology gets better and we start relying on even more complex systems. Wait until robots and AI start taking jobs and people lose the identity and purpose their career gave them.

Seems you enjoy WW2 history. I highly recommend Shattered Sword. It is a history of the Battle of Midway from the Japanese perspective.

that sounds interesting. I loved Ian Toll’s Pacific Crucible which was an American recounting of Midway

They did a lot of firsthand research in Japanese naval records and interviews that never made it into other accounts...as its often said..history is written by the victors

Freedom's Forge is another personal favorite. An account of how American industry won the war.
Also: The Girls of Atomic City. It's about the young women at the Oak Ridge facility.
