This one taken in July 2024. Incomplete...but judging by the rear tires, someone's been having a little fun :D

Spotted this 1st gen Accord in the wild back in May. I have to give a special shout out to this one as it's one of my favorites. These were a dime a dozen when I was in high school. Now you just don't see them anymore. Especially in this condition.

My dad owned a 2003 Honda S2000 from September 2005 to the summer of 2007. He drove it regularly for about six months and then bought a 2002 BMW 325Ci convertible. The S2000 just sat at my uncle's hubcap and wheel business for roughly a year, only being driven occasionally until my dad sold it to a wholesaler. The car had nothing wrong with it, but it was not very practical or comfortable as a daily driver (my dad typically drove his 1996 Nissan Pathfinder to work). He also found out months after buying it that it had been in a pretty major accident under previous ownership. The car had a clean title and was repaired properly except for the left front fender being painted the wrong color, which we didn't notice back in 2005 because the car was on the showroom floor when we went to look at it, and it was also in evening that day. My dad kind of bought it on impulse, and one clue was that the front left wheel shimmied intermittently at high speeds. It became so bad that after having the car for just a week, my dad brought it back to the dealer. They put it up on the lift, and determined that the wheel was from an older S2000, and was thus ever so slightly too small. The dealership at the time was called Keenan Honda, and they also had a had Mercedes dealership called Keenan Motors. Faulkner bought both dealers when Keenan retired, renaming them Faulkner Honda and Mercedes-Benz of Doylestown, respectively.

The car my dad bought had been sold new in Indiana, and then traded for a Mercedes if I remember correctly. They had another recently traded 2003 S2000 at the Mercedes dealership, which they brought to the Honda dealer, and swapped out the wheels. Our car was under warranty since it was only two years old, and since the black S2000 hadn't been officially prepped for sale yet, they just put on the wheel from that car and ordered a new one for it so we wouldn't have to wait. The Carfax report showed no accidents, so the repair was obviously paid for out of pocket and there was no record of it. The mismatched paint and incorrect wheel would indicate a very half-assed repair. The car had a clean title, and I don't think it would have been totaled had the previous owner gone through insurance, but it was obviously a pretty significant accident that likely required the car to be towed. In spite of the sketchy repairs, the car ran and drove fine, and didn't have any mechanical issues. However, my dad was a bit pissed about having been misled and just wanted the car gone. It was a beautiful color, Suzuka Blue Metallic with a blue interior, and given the resurgence that S2000s have experienced I would say that it is probably still around as long as the new owner didn't total it. I don't remember exactly what my dad paid for the car, but the wholesaler gave him $14K cash and this was a loss (this was back in 2007).

20 years ago I would have never imagined seeing one of these at a classic car show. Now it totally works!
