It's not hard, just take lots of pictures and keep your fasteners organized if it's your first time.

If when you are getting close to it you might be able to disconnect the connector. With the loose pigtail it might be possible to plug in a new one without having to remove the old one lessening the work.

I haven't done a 3rd gen but I've done my share of dash jobs, most of them aren't too hard just alot of pieces.

When your taking doors off to do one it's getting into hard territory.

Those are horrible for diagnostic work
When blown, they still pass voltage, so you can actually test a circuit for voltage, have it be good, and then when a load is applied voltage goes to nothing

Exactly why I use a test light of appropriate current for the circuit instead of a meter for checking powers and grounds on circuits, you can have voltage but it won't always carry a load.

If nothing else the OP will have a great opportunity to check for water damage all the way up the back of the firewall.

Always look on the bright side of life.

Looks like it could use a good cleaning while you have everything out.

I'd unplug any connectors that are accessible and give them a good cleaning with DeOxIt or another good electrical cleaner.

Those pictures are concerning, to say the least. If you can get the metal bar out it would be a good idea to try to clean it up and maybe paint it with rust inhibiting paint.

FWIW the OP is in too deep to turn back now. This truck should have been parted out.

I think he realizes that now, but OTOH if he knew about the flood issue he never would have bought the car. A hard lesson to learn.

I don’t know much about auctions but wasn’t the OP given a chance to inspect the vehicle before bidding?

IIRC, somewhere early in this thread he said he thought he was bidding on another vehicle.

    Mistakes were made, no doubt.
    But damn...
A little different than accidentally picking up a can of decaf...
