that salty sand/silt/grit/dust/scum gets into every nook and cranny, inside and out. I hose mine down religiously and repeatedly, still find beach crumbs months later.

 

I am surprised that they run them with what looks like street tires. Interesting a winch and bull bar on the Nissan but not on the Taco. But man I would like to be on that beach today

 

My personal experience is worn out HT tires work better than more aggressive tires, specially MT tires on sand. I feel they flow better, less tendency of digging in and down. Not sure why or if it's true for everybody.

 

I have done beach driving for years which I am sure is much different than desert driving or hitting the sand dunes. Airing down is really the key in my experience - the bigger the tire patch the better. I have always went with wider tires aired down to 10psi - I know a few folks who even go lower but I don't want to take the chance of breaking the bead. Personally I think a little more aggressive tire like an AT provides more grip but that is just my personal opinion - no way of proving it. Most of the people I have helped get "un-stuck" on the beach over the years are people with 4x4 who didn't air down - on the other hand I seen little Subarus that are aired down running all over the 4x4 access only beach in Corolla NC when we go there - some on stock street tires - it amazes me but there they are.

I am going to resurrect this thread. San Diego Lifeguards using a 3rd gen Tacoma and as a bonus, a 3rd gen Tundra

 

The old timers here in NC will tell you back in the ‘40s and ‘50s they ran bald tires on their cars (yep RWD) and drove up and down the beach without much trouble. First time I saw vintage video I was like WTF?

I just came here to see the female lifeguards. What a letdown....
