Install progressed smoothly. Really loving it so far. Need to loosen and correct the three panel roof - not perfectly level. Also, my passenger side is missing 2/3 of the window gussets. I've reached out to RSI, so we'll see.

Need to install the stage three leaves on my RXT now lol.

Are there locks that work with the new latches and hook up to the stock fob?

anyone know how wonky it would fit if a 3rd gen smart cap went onto a 2nd gen? minus the back window trim of course.

Huge gap at the head board and tailgate. It wouldn't be too bad if you pulled the plastic bed rails. I would wait unless it's an awesome deal.

The South African style latches worked great on my trip out to the Grand Mesa in Colorado. It was so much easier to pack and not have to worry about stuff shifting left or right and hitting the inside release on the newer latches. The size of the dust caps make them more sturdy also. I already had at least one of the discs on the new style tear because the piece holding it is in so thin. I am still using the new style on the back for now.

dont have a smartcap, but an alucab that is different widths front and rear. i went with same length bars. looked a little funny with just my tent up there, but looks a lot better with the awning on as well. not a ton of room left over on the sides with both up there.

Smartcap has different widths front and rear as well. Found that out after cutting down my bars

My homebrew solution used 47'' bars lifted +1'' from the cap which clears the side doors perfectly.

Hey guys, haven't checked in in quite a bit and fell behind, so I'm sure it's been covered but:

1 - Have the release-from-inside-and-less-prone-to-freezing latches been released yet for v1 (horizontal locks/latches) of the cap?

    Below assuming yes:
2 - What's the process of acquiring them? I added my email to the waitlist way back when but of course, never heard anything after :(
3 - I am seeing that the latches for v2 (vertical latches) have issues in opening by themselves, is this the case for the updated latch for v1?
4 - Finally, I read somewhere on facebook that the "old latches" (the ones I have, I'm guessing?) can be modified to allow opening from the inside; if true, does anyone know what this entails?

    Thank you!

Nicely done. - I like those 'feet' supporting the bars. Would you mind sharing a source? Do you have a close-up? (Curious about the fastener configuration.)

I have the front runner bars, but it looks like the sheet metal 'feet' are the weak link with those (not a severe issue). I also take the bars off ocassionally, but leave the brackets for ease of re-installation.

    TIA!

I agree that the Front Runner towers are a weak link. I also haven't had any issues so far, and other than my lightweight tent don't lput much load on the rack.

A good source for DIY load bars and hardware is McMaster Carr.

I ordered the same components to build my own bars. However, I ordered directly from the manufacturer.

    https://8020.net/framing-options.html

Ultimately, I acquired a set of Frontrunner bars and went with those... purely based on ease.
