For those researching, I was able to put on 17” wheels, 8.5w, -18 offset with 285/70/17 BFG KO2 with a 3.5” suspension lift and no CMC.

I was researching for answers and got so much conflicting information that I hope this helps some people.

maybe not on a smooth flat surface but now cycle the suspension while turning cause i know for a fact they will contact without a cmc at that offset.

You're one of the rare ones, like me. I ran a similar setup with effectively the same outer wheel position/poke (17x9 -12 wheels = same outer poke as 17x8.5 -18 wheels).

I didn't have any rub at all on the street or with mild-moderately bumpy dirt roads... But once you stuff a tire with the steering wheel turned (or you knock the front end out of alignment), you'll kiss that cab mount sooner or later :D

the lip of the wheel would have the same poke but the centerline of the tire itself would be out 5mm more

The people that run 285s and no CMC “without rubbing” manage to keep their trucks at the mall or fire roads. 285s will rub off-road, CMC is a easy fix though.

Put the truck on jackstands, remove the front coilovers, install the wheels and show us a video of the full suspension travel while turning full lock. What are your alignment numbers?

Yup, that's the only way to verify that some wheel/offset combo actually fits, people saying otherwise without evidence are just spreading misinformation.

I mean my 295's on a -38 won't rub at a 3" lift. Hit a bump while turned and that story quickly changes.

My experience with a 17x9 +1 285/70r17 says there is absolutely no way a -18 will clear once even mildly flexed while turning.

It doesnt get much tighter than that. You can see the rub marks on the mud flap from turning. Pretty sure that's with 4.5 degrees caster
