Well, the city guys came over to shut off the water supply line/read the meter as I shut the complete house/toilet/dishwasher/washing machine off, one thing at a time, and when I shut off the entire house the meter stopped turning... so at least the leak isn't outside which would require a backhoe. When we turned off the toilet, dishwasher, washing machine the leak was still turning the meter. I don't know how to turn off the icemaker water and wouldn't the sinks be dripping if they had a leak?
Sans finding anything above the floor, that means touring the crawl space with a flashlight. A little foam duct taped to the knees will be required.
Big relief that the leak isn't underground outside. But I may be wading in mud to fix anything in the crawl space. At least I can shut the house water off to stop the meter and the expense involved from that.

Enjoying the retired life today. Mowed the lawn and then bbg'd We don't buy beef steaks very often due to it being so expensive now. But every once in awhile it is a real treat.

Sounds like too much water to be from anything inside the house. If it was a toilet you’d hear the toilets running, if a sink it would be more than drip drip drip. Refrigeration/ice maker you’d have puddles on the floor. But who knows. I think I’d shut everything in the house off. Then turn on one thing and check the meter to see if any flow. If not turn on one more thing and check the meter. Do that for each thing in the house.one at a time and turn the last thing off as you open a new one til you find which one moves the water gauge. If it was one of the main pipes under the house it would still leak no matter what you turned off. And if it is leaking somewhere under the house it’s going to be a muddy swamp down there. I’ve always hated anything plumbing cause I know I’m not very good at it and hate it. Good luck Travir, let us know how it goes.

I always called that Process of Elimination in my old house. All the plumbing was in the crawl space and I spent a lot of time in there...my kids used to call me "The Troll Under the House (Bridge)". Never had a leak when we were home always when we were away or out. Fortunatly we were on a well so it was just a higher electric bill. Hope Travlr finds it without too much of an issue.

At my age, ‘Process of Elimination’ is the only way for most of anything that goes wrong nowadays. The new stuffs are not the thing I’ve learned anymore :annoyed:

Careful what you ask for…..the wife was on me about doing that cologuard thing. I told her I read the instructions and couldn’t do it because it said to place a small stool sample on the thingy, “you ordered the wrong size, I don’t have small stools”.

We have experienced a couple breaks indicated by high water usage in a billing period, or part of a billing period if the water department spots it. The water department forgives the cost of the water overage if we show a repair was needed. Two times it has been an in-ground irrigation line, we fixed it ourselves and sent the materials invoice to the water dept and all was good. One time it was the meter in the sidewalk that was the issue, they fixed it with no charge to us.

In my previous house we were the first house remodel in the city that required a fire sprinkler system to be retrofitted; our house was originally built over 100 years ago. 30+ years ago, just the new fire service meter cost us 6 grand, that was on top of a full sprinkler system in the house. 10 years later one of the high pressure fire service lines in one of our exterior walls failed.......OMG!....What a mess. Insurance covered the huge clean up and repair including new hardwood floors in the living room and then promptly cancelled our policy!

Steaks look fantastic and those are porterhouse due to the size of the filet side. Happy to see you are enjoying retirement.

Good morning. Yesterday went well, interesting process. Today is shoe shopping for dress shoes. 40% chance of rain here today.

    Morning all:

A belated 54th anniversary congratulations to you and the wife Radd!

Sounds like all went well with the wisdom tooth extraction Tom.

Getting a coal delivery later today, hope it didn't go up too much in price. It's a 3T year, so should be about $400 less than a 4T year, guess I should at least be glad for that!
