Transfer shift actuator is dead.

    Thanks for posting this - it makes me want to be sure to keep that actuator well maintained by off-roading a lot more each month!

    Make it a point to check your breather hose on the actuator! Surest way to wind up with water inside.

    Most mechanics will say you have to replace the actuator because Toyota has it as a non-repairable item. There is no procedure to disassemble and re-clock in the FSM. There are few mechanics who actually know that it can be done. Probably fewer that would want to try.

    ^German mechanic will be able to do it with his eyes closed. I mean, the actuator internals are simpler than a Mercedes wiper arm...

    Yes it can be easily extended. if you like spending money and don’t like doing DIY stuff, you can also get a kit from ARB for all your breathers.

    The breather goes up to the firewall, which is fine...as long as it stays attached
