For those that may be interested, the info in this post did not apply to my 2013. I can only assume that depending on which factory head unit one has/had the wiring may be different.

On my 2013, connector IN1 has no provision for the reverse trigger. Spot #11 in connector IN1 is blank. There is no wire in spot #11.
My reverse trigger wire is found in a connector behind the drivers kick panel. Not sure of the connector designator.

Just installed a new Ainavito head unit and a new 12 volt camera in the tailgate latch. Did some mods to supply the camera with 12 volts but am having trouble getting the tailgate camera to display on the head unit. When I connect the camera that came with the head unit it will display but not with the tailgate camera.

Just a side note on cables. If you have access to a now obsolete three lead VCR/DVD cable the one with the Yellow connector is the video. This may have better shielding than the two audio cables.

Not trying to be a jerk but I have been fighting the radio wiring with my steering controls and backup camera. On step 2 you said Connect the shield or jacket of the shielded cable (V-) into the pin hole with the RED wire on the OEM connector. Did you mean the black wire? Again just trying to understand as I have never done this type of wiring. Thanks!

    Hey Everyone

So I have a 2013 Toyota Tacoma Extended Cab (non JBL version) and decided it was time to upgrade the head unit. Here's what I went with:

    Stereo: Sony XAV-AX3700
Steering Wheel Integration: iDatalink Maestro RR (ADS-MRR)
Wire Harnesses: iDatalink Maestro T-Harness (HRN-RR-TO1) and iDatalink Maestro Sony adapter (ACC-HU-SON1)

In my Tacoma, the rear view camera video signal was visible in the rear view mirror only. I wanted to be able to view the camera on the Sony head unit (and the rear view mirror), so for the first attempt I decided to simply flash the Maestro RR and select the option to have rear view camera enabled. Unfortunately, this did not work to display the camera output in the head unit (I didn't expect it to, but decided to test it anyways). For the next attempt, I decided to try to follow the instructions in this post. Initially, I took an old crappy (non-shielded) RCA video cable (yellow) and soldered and heat-shrinked d-sub connectors to one end (as described in this post). I first made the connection to the factory harness as follows: Center (V+) to Red and Shield (V-) to Black. When I tested it, everything worked, however, I was getting black scrolling lines (as others described). I tried switching the shielded d-sub pin to the white wire (as @ajp described in a post from 2014), however, the black scrolling lines remained. I decided to make a new cable - this time with an old shielded composite video cable I had lying around from back in the day. When I hooked it up, the black scrolling lines disappeared. I tried the shielded d-sub pin on both the black and white pins of the factory connector, however there was no difference in performance, so I left it plugged into the black wire. Here's the cool thing - I believe since I utilized the iDatalink maestro with wire harness, the reverse signal was preserved for me - thus I didn't need to run a separate wire for the reverse signal indicator to the other connector above the video signal connector. It just simply works when I put the truck into reverse!

So everything is working great at this point. The one thing that's a bit odd is that the new Sony head unit has a dedicated touch screen button for backup camera... If I turn the truck on and hit this button, it says video signal not detected. However, if I first shift the truck into reverse (thus displaying the backup camera image on the head unit/rear view mirror) and subsequently hit the backup camera image (after I put the truck in park), the button then works to display the camera video. Not sure why it's behaving like this... Anyways, its not a huge deal and overall I am beyond satisfied with how the whole setup turned out.

Just thought I'd share my experience as it still may be relevant/helpful to others.
