    @koditten (or anyone who knows)....
I've learned more than I ever wanted to know about the three generations of Kohler starters by watching this video. Well, except for one thing... The Bendix gear on my 61" seems to be sticking sometimes when I turn the key. My starter is a 3rd Gen like the one shown in this picture. The video also shows the starter with the black plastic cap that covers the spring and the retaining nut removed. But he never says HOW to remove the plastic cap. Mine appears to be stuck pretty good, and I'm trying not to break it while trying to get it off to spray some WD40 Dry Lube on it. I don't know if it is supposed to pull off, or if it's threaded.. RH or LH thread?

    Hi yall,
I moved and got another used Zero Turn today, its a Craftsman ZT7000 50 inch with a Briggs and Stratton 22HP 40H777-0242-E1 motor. I am trying to figure out the correct oil filter, its got a small stubby one but there is not a sticker or markings on said oil filter. I ran the motor number through the B&S website but it did not bring up oil filter, air filters, spark plugs.
    Any suggestions?

That must be a Kohler Courage engine? They pretty much only a 6-700 hour engine.

I don't spend much time beyond diagnosing and sadly telling the customer the engine is EOL, quite often.

If the lower end is still snug, then yes, put some effort into the starter. I'm not positive, but that cap is not there for much more than covering the threads. It's not doing much. I'd just pull it straight up. It's got to be a snap or friction fit. If it breaks, you aren't out anything. You can still use the starter and it will function just fine without the plastic cap.

Regardless, those starters are very reasonable. I think I spent $22 with the southern jungle to replace.

    I'm pretty sure that uses a #4967.

Mate the old filter up face to face with the new filter to double check .

As long as the gasket surface and the center pipe nipple (3/8" NPT) are the same it will work just fine.

You can also take your old filter to an auto parts store and physically compare the faces to other filters on the shelf. Some filters are 4 times long, giving you close to another 1/2 qt oil capacity.

These small engines work hard. A bit more oil capacity will make them very happy!

It's a Command Pro KT745. The picture in my post is from the video, but my starter has the same plastic cap. I read elsewhere that the cap is supposed to help keep it clean underneath, to minimize the possibility of sticking (like mine he's doing now). But your info and the video that @wilcam47 posted should help me to get it off without breaking it. :fingerscrossed:

I assume thats a fram 4967? Only thing that comes up when I google "oil filter 4967". Looks like it fits a shit ton of B&S engines. Capacity is 1.9q with filter, hopefully bigger filter can get it up to 2.3q

Good suggestion, unfortunately I already found that but it doesn't say which of those 6 is for this engine and none of those airfilters match this one to help narrow it down.

Busy this weekend but I'm hoping next week to do a full maintenance - oil and filter, spark plugs, air filter, fuel lines and filter, sharpen blades(replace if necessary), grease all zerk fittings, figure out how to change "non serviceable" drive units, drain gas tank and run new gas with seafoam(for preventive), when gas tank is removed clean out engine area, inflate all tires to same psi and see if they leak down after a few days. Will post pictures once its cleaned up and looking better.

On a different subject.. but many here may like it/

    I changed a 120/70-12 tire today/
Those small wheels can be a bear to break the bead. (I know this having just done another of the pair a week ago.

This time, after pulling the stem from the Schrader valve, I connected a two foot length of fuel line between the valve stem and a VACUUM PUMP!

In less than 5 seconds, the first side of the tire bead had come free of the rim.
The second bead came off easily using the bench vise.

I'm never fighting to breack a bead again!

Count me fortunate to have a good vacuum pump! I'm not sure if a shop vac would have enough lift.

OK, back to the previous banter! ;-)

Cleaning out my road drainage after the county graded and filled it in as usual. When I fabbed my loader I set my loader bucket up to go several inches sub-level. I was able to angle down and dig the edge of the road down 12" deep.

    20250906_103602.jpg 20250906_100554.jpg

Also installed the last decals on the Yanmar, the "Sc2400" Tough angle to get thes on right. I set them level. I've seen them at several angles on different tractors but level seems to look most correct.

That’s what I told the missus but she’s on par with a court clerk and follows protocol to the T or she gets all assbergers on me if I tell her to commit felony related stuff like that . I’ll then have to explain to her that it’s less work sending pictures instead of sending it back

They stopped doing that with me a couple years ago.

Now they always want it back. I think they sell returns by the pallettload and the buyers sell it to the bin stores or the bin stores buy it direct.

These are the ones I have... arrived unbroken. They've held up well for almost a year now. Stuck them to the Loader uprights and they haven't budged...
