    You say you don't like the idea of a standalone wiring kit, yet it sounds like that is exactly what you are using based on your statement of power coming from the battery with the Morimoto kit. I was under the assumption you were powering your HIDs directly from the OEM harness, aka no power being drawn from the battery. I've not seen wiring failures with HID kits when using a standalone wiring kit, as the OEM wiring sees no load, it is just a trigger and all the power load is drawn through the standalone wiring harness. If that is accurate it is really confusing why your OEM wiring would be in such poor condition. It is easy to extend your wiring harness and use the passenger side plug as a trigger as previously mentioned, assuming your passenger side wiring is in better condition.

    Yeah, I see it as the the Morimoto kit I’m already using is the standalone kit, that’s why I don’t want another, seems redundant.

    I’m confused as well, as well as frustrated, why the oem plug is in such poor condition, it wasn’t in great shape before the hid kit was installed, connections inside the plug that should’ve fit tight to a bulb were not tight, I had the Morimoto trigger plug and the oem driver plug zip tied together and covered the plug mating surfaces in dielectric grease to protect things.

    I’m still curious about tracing the oem driver and passenger plug wiring back to the fuse/relay and installing new wiring and new ceramic H4 receptacles.

    I don’t like just taping off the driver side, but probably looking for perfection which is likely a waste of time on a 25 year old truck

    I have not tried it but from experience, you get what you pay for.

    I suspect quality differences in the wiring, connectors and the relays make up the cost differences.

    I used a cheapo harness on my ‘02 Tundra. The only real concern is making sure ground switched vs power switched is accommodated as the high beam indicator may not illuminate when using a power switched harness with a ground switched vehicle.

    The cheap harness performed well. And had no issues. I replaced my ‘02 and added in my ‘05 Tacoma with h4 harnesses from HS because I never got around to building my own and I don’t love crimping large gauge unsealed connectors.

    I think for the price this represents considerable value.
