    TRD Tuned Bilstein Shocks
    Hello Everyone,

I recently purchased the TRD Tuned Bilstein Shocks for the 3rd Gen Tacoma. From what I gathered these shocks are basically "rebranded" Bilstein 5100's. And typically the 5100's are paired with the OME 2888 (2" lift) coil springs. My question to you all is do you foresee any issues with pairing my new TRD Tuned Bilstein shocks with the OME 2888's coil springs??

    Thank you!

oh boy smh...where did you read 5100 are typically paired with 2888? 5100's are made to use with the stock springs. you can put aftermarket springs on them but at that point you are guessing the lift you are getting. aftermarket springs are made for different weights of the car, if i have a steel bumpers with winch my height will be different then yours using the same spring. read around to see what set up people are running with what mods/stock configurations but most importantly you should try to learn basic vehicle topics before jumping in and lifting your truck.

888 is an option, 886 is the only OME coil that is not recommended for use with 5100s. Although I believe some have done it. I’d confirm coil seating on the OEM TRD shocks first.

Ironic telling him to learn basics when your post is full of false information

Yeah, this is basically correct. According to Bilstein, the 5100 are supposed to be used with the stock Tacoma springs. Anything else voids the warranty. While you "can" use other springs, there isn't any reason too unless your truck is now heavier. In that case, probably don't even want to go with the 5100s.

I have the 5100s (5125 in rear) with the stock springs. My truck is mostly stock with a shell on the back and sliders being the only mods. The 5100s with stock springs gave me 2" in front. Icon leaf pack in the back got me 2" over stock with the shell. The truck rides/drives very similar to stock but just a bit better on bumps and corners and a bit more surefooted off road.

I stuck with Bilstein 5100s recommendation of keepin' the stock coils, and it rides great @ 2".

3 inch lift "Bilstein 5100's w OME2888 springs and Torch AAL, 4:88 gears, front/rear Eaton Lockers, Falken Wildpeak 255/85R16 tires, RCI skid Plates
@nvr-enuf i am running OME 2888 springs and Bilstein 5100's. I will say that with my setup it is oversprung slightly, but i did that intentionally because i did not want it to relax and sag under the weight..which was a common problem with the 888 springs i had read..
its been 3 months and hasnt dropped a mm; However, thats because i have a compound lift which we arent supposed to do.. mehhhh whatever, anyway, i am running my bilsteins on the 2nd notch from bottom.. meaning 1 clip setting up from the lowest setting.. with mine i am seeing a solid 3 inch lift height in front, with a winch, winch bumper, and full steel underbody protection..
In short, it rides nice in the rougher stuff, but i can feel every itty bitty little pebble in the road.. may partly be because i am running E-rated tires which themselves have a stiff sidewall.... with all that said i would recommend to NEVER move the clip setting above that 2nd circlip if not using stock height springs.. it would be just waaayy too much but again that applies only if running a lift spring.. and if you are not running extra weight like winch bumper, winch and skid plates then DO NOT move it to 2nd notch when you do use lift springs.. it will be a bouncamatic if you do.. as the springs will be precompressed and the 5100 shock simply cannot handle that level of contained stress and rebound..

For me it works because i have compressed the springs into their sweet spot for weight im carrying, and will carry in the future.. such as rock sliders

TRD shocks are not 5100s. They are a smaller diameter lower performing shock.
