Snapped some pics, but didn't actually test the evap valve yet. Assuming it's the blue solenoid looking thing attached to the passenger side of the charcoal canister.

Ok so update to my situation: I already had a new roller valve and charcoal canister on hand. So I went ahead and swapped both and my problem is fixed. I had half a tank of gas, and after completing the work I was able to pump about 8 gallons in there without the nozzle clicking until the end. And when I cracked the gas cap it clearly wasn't holding any back pressure (no audible whoosh of fuel vapors as there was before).

I kept the old charcoal canister that has the old evap valve and I will try and apply 12v to it tomorrow, to determine if that was the culprit. Would've done that today but had a helper for a short window of time and wanted to get the new parts installed and the bed put back on, as I've got a trip to Crown King, AZ, planned for this Sunday.

My old roller valve appeared to be perfectly fine. Swapped it anyway because I don't want to have to pull the bed again anytime soon, but I'm leaning towards the charcoal canister and/or evap valve being the culprit. Keep in mind the new charcoal canister came with a new evap valve attached.

were you able to ever test the evap valve ? I also have the 03 extended cab 4wd 2.7... lately can only manage .25 cents before the gas station pump clicks off.

No I never remembered to. I still have the old charcoal cannister (with the evap valve attached), so I can try to find time a day this week after work to test it, and report back.

In the meantime if you really need to get fuel in the truck, you might want to try turning the gas pump nozzle upside down, as this will bypass the mechanism that clicks the pump off.

Actually I tried a few things and two days ago I filled up with only the slightest squeeze to the pump trigger ( slower going!) and the nozzle partially inserted… need to try that again for the moment.
