somewhere up above there you can see where I found an entire train that wrecked into the stream and they just left it there... and that was in Washington as well.

I remember seeing your post about that a while back. I didn’t realize it was in this area though. I wanted to see more than we did, but my daughter has having so much fun at our lunch spot that we stuck around there for a while.

that train wreck was very challenging to get down to as well as climbing back out. It can only be done with ropes. Your daughters age and climbing abilities might be a factor.

The tree has a blue spray paint mark on it, I wonder if it has been recorded by the DNR , it was right off the trail.

Forgot to post up this car I came across the other day. I've stumbled upon a fair bit of old cars over the years and some of them were even stripped down, but this one was the most stripped down of any of them by far.

somebody has! Was there other paint in the area?
Looks like northern white cedar. I tallied thousands in Michigan but I’ve never seen a burl on one! That’s pretty cool.

MiDNR use slashes to tally logs and dots for pulp. If it was just a dot on a face it could be a property marker or sale boundary. But there’d be others painted in both cases. if there was paint on the stump or butt, someone means to know if it gets cut.

Now that we are getting close to fall I have been really treasure hunting again and I don't take enough pictures of all the historical stuff I come across. Either I am having too much fun and don't think to stop to take a picture or I am a perfectionist and can't take a good enough picture. So here is a gif instead of an exceedingly rare bottle. If anyone somehow happens to have any information on the bottle or especially the bottling company let me know!

Found an old homemade tool box full of what seem to be material for an electric fence perhaps because it had a whole bunch of insulators and those u-shaped pieces of metal that you pound in. Also had some regular nails and four railroad spikes among a couple other things. It was created out of an old oil can and someone added the wood divider in the middle that held the handle. Super cool find. In a different spot also found where someone was pulling the no vehicle sign out and driving in and then putting the sign back in place to have a little off the grid camp. Kind of a sketchy looking little camp honestly.

Your sketchy camp reminds me of the last time I got punched in the face!

doing forest inventory, autumn just west of the Seney National Wildlife refuge in the UP. A colleague was following me down a pretty well worn path to a distant plot along a river. I was navigating up front and stumbled upon a stand over a pile of fish carcasses and cake icing. No one there at the time. We had to keep going and it just happened that another well worn trail continued on past the bait pile….. after a few hundred yards, nice bigs tracks, scat, and that smell everywhere; I decided to turn and run past my colleague as fast as I could. Back at the bait pile I stopped and my companion caught up. He was white as a ghost and I think he pee’d himself. Well that’s when he learned I was joking….
