Hmm…. That makes it easier to toss people out when you grab them by the back of the shirt collar and trousers! You can stack ‘em like firewood in the yard.

Ok Shop folks, gather round, it’s story time.

So last year I got my mother’s 2010 GLK 350 when she stopped driving at 90… Car has been good but God awfully expensive to service. Last week I experienced some very loose rear end handling so I dropped it off at the local independent garage that I use. They put it on the lift and found the rear subframe broke from corrosion. Great… Well, MB USA has an extended warranty for 20 years on replacing the rear subframe. So I have it towed to the dealer nearest me, Mauro Motors. They look at the car and confirm the subframe. But then they tell me the rear springs are rusted and broken in the cradle and that the exhaust has a slight black mark at the joint they have to loosen to remove the rear exhaust resonator and mufflers. They quote over $2700.00 to replace 2 springs and the resonator. I was shocked. I ask for a breakdown and they’re also charging for labor when they have to remove those items anyway. So… I ask for the part numbers and find that the same dealer has an online discount parts store with the parts in question being $1100. For example, the springs only the online store are $118/each while they quoted $988. I tell them that I’ll buy the parts and the tech can pick them up at the parts counter and install them. Response: Oh, no, we can’t do that. The online parts store is wholesale and we only install retail parts. I try to explain that I’m a retail customer at the parts store to no avail. So the car will have the subframe replaced and either I’ll do the springs or take it to the local garage.

I guess this is why the older I get, the more I hate people.
