Ask for the 9.2 update, and you can try the settings to see what's best for you. Asking for the 9.2 update is the key.

I use to have that "lunging/lurch" when I first tried OTT back in May/2022...I believe it was version 7...Mild/Medium Tune Setting.

My tuner heard my plea and put in a lighter setting...lite/mild.

Next up was the major update OTT, version 8 with same settings in Jun/2022...lite/mild.

By the time the next version came around, I was adjusted to custom Mild-Med Drive/Spicy ECT with Gear Lock in Oct/2023.

I use the recommended octane and have no issues with jumpy throttle in parking lots.

Looking forward to meeting up with my Tuner and getting version 9.2!

You never know what might be coming. :)

But truthfully, I'm not sure the calibration could be improved much. If it's a different setting, we have 18 possible combinations for 2G 4.0L calibrations. Currently, there are six different throttle profiles and three different transmission tunes. And there's always our custom tune option for a truly custom file.

I went with Lite/Mild from the beginning, I have a hunch that changing yours to that may help. When I got the tune, I told Alan that I had concerns regarding snow driving; that's what he recommended as the different levels of tune don't really affect HP/torque, they only affect throttle response. Folks are more than welcome to correct me if I'm wrong, but that's my recollection.

Even with Lite/Mild I do get a tiny bit of a lurch when the engine's cold, but it goes away once the engine warms up.

All of that said, I'll still probably do the update anyway the next time he's in town.

Been following OTT for a while now and I am ready to be on board. Who do I contact to do the tune? I'm in Sacramento, CA.

@JustDSM I observed that the 4G tune with M/T makes zero turbo boost when using low-range. What's up with that? The truck was absolutely gutless in 2nd gear 4LO doing a long hill climb at 12000' elevation. I barely made it up the hill was so steep. Is this a deliberate design decision and can it be fixed?

The boost targets for 4Lo are the same as 2Hi. There are a lot of variables that can be at play here, so it's not as simple as it might seem. Aside from that, the throttle mapping for 4Lo is quite a bit 'neutered' from our 2Hi/4Hi setting, but that's by design and done by the factory.

We'll need some specifics to understand precisely what your inputs were for the truck. Let's take this offline and have you email info@overlandtailor.com so we can better assist you. In your email, please let us know who your retailer was or if you were a DIY installer.

    Best,
    Justin

Thanks Justin. Email sent. I hope we can figure out what happened and how to improve the situation. The truck performed worse than my 3G M/T did in this exact location, and I firmly expect the tuned 4G to outshine it.

We'll take a deep dive into it. All the 4Lo Limiters from the factory are stll in place. Give us some time to dig into the code so we have a complete picture.

How did your 4 gen perform at this same exact location before tune? Where is this location, if I may ask?

@STEELeR43 I did not take my 4G up this trail before tuning; however, if I am understanding what JustDSM is saying, the boost limitations in 4LO originate in the Toyota factory tune.

Got the files and flashed 9.2 this morning. I must say, the smoothness of the throttle is a major improvement. Leaving my driveway and cruising the neighborhood, I could immediately notice the slow speed throttle smoothness. Excited to put some more miles on it today. I think I flashed the mild throttle tune but may bump it up.

I got my 2022 OR in 2021 Dec, first thing was replacing the tires, the second was getting the OTT. It changed the truck completely, way way way better drivability. I will get the 9.2 update in next few months. I am happy with current version so no rush for it.

That was my only gripe with OTT the low speed, parking lot, rolling from a stop sign. Unless you are super light on the throttle it downshifts to 1st hard and lurches to take off. They are always improving which is nice to see.
