CX Season is here in the East, got a nice MTB ride in this am at SMBA Daniels Rd, then off to set the course for Nomad CX tomorrow am. Four nice laps on a fast course and one for the Strava segment…IMG_6520.jpg Pic is supposed to be my younger daughter Lilly but I missed her.
Can’t ride bikes all day if you don’t start first thing in the am!

I’m in the market for a bike, I’ve ridden many and can’t come to a conclusion. Ideas around Ibis, Yeti, and Pivot. I rode a Switchblade the other day and it rode very well, I’ve ridden the new trailcat and it was even more poppy, Ripmo felt heavy comparatively, and still haven’t been a Yeti. I’m in Utah so I see mountain riding to slick rock. Help! Any thoughts?

My wife and I both ride Ibis (Ripley, not Ripmo) so the choice is obvious. Seriously, all three you mentioned are good choices so buy based on the shop you like, both sales and service. A good fitting with stem/saddle/bar swaps, parts discount, and warranty support are really useful.

Sick! We are waiting on some loads of dirt then should be building some jumps nearby. Undecided on. How big we are gonna go but I’m leaning towards longer transitions with taller lips but we will see!

The evolution of trails. It always seems to be a trial and error thing. This is my backyard and I'm a one man show, so every thing is about 5'. It's fine for a BMX. I ride a big spot not too far from here, so I'll just save the huge stuff for there.

The Stumpjumper is finally out of rehab and back on the trails. Since I have become a YouTube mechanic, I’ll share my lessons learned. I don’t think I will own another bike with an adjustable headset, like the stumpjumper Evo. I ended up having to buy new cups and replaced the headset bearings. The old cups were wallowed out. I’m now running a Cane Creek headset.
Next, I fully rebuilt the I-9 Hydra wheel set. The front hub had some visibly crusty bearings, but the rear looked fine just a little dry. I9 sent me their new rear axle, which uses a thrust washer to alleviate the broken axle issue. I didn’t mess up the free hub installing the bearings. Apparently, I used the XD press adapter rather than the microspline. The Microspline adapter is slightly narrower. If you use the wrong one, it destroys the threads. a new free hub on I-9’s website is about $230. I called, explained my mishap, and asked if I could purchase just the shell without the pawls, seal or bearings. This part is not listed on their website, but they sold me one for $80!

Any Denver gents in here? Going to be in the area for a couple of nights early next week.

Thinking about a floyd hill and white ranch day, then buffalo creek the next. Anyone have thoughts on this route?
