VSC/TRAC runs with ABS and has been on various Toyota vehicles probably about as long as ABS has. Sorry couldn't find any exact numbers, but Toyota.com lists ABS/VSC/TRAC with the Active Safety features.

ATRAC is a different animal entirely that's was introduced on the Prado probably around 2000ish (again couldn't find actual numbers and didn't feel like digging on Prado forums). They updated it with ATRAC II and ATRAC II+ (they added a second wheel sensor) was available as early as the 02 4Runner. It got a lot of attention with the launch of the FJ redesign and debuted with the Tacos in the 09 model year.

ATRAC doesn't activate until VSC/TRAC is turned off. Thus, AUTO LSD turning on when VSC is turned off. Auto LSD is an extension of ATRAC. I've used auto LSD in slush/snow with great results and you can hear the brakes and throttle going nuts while it controls wheel speed.

To address the OP, you'd need 8 wheel sensors, a software upgrade (and any hardware that involves), and possibly upgrades to the brake system (ATRAC is heavily brake dependent).

JHodge and Enola, you two are arguing about completely different systems.

Good thread on a 120 Series forum for ATRAC stuff

This is useful information. Exactly what I was after. Thanks!

I lied Auto LSD has nothing to do with ATRAC. Auto LSB is automatic throttle and brake control while ATRAC is strictly brake control. I started a thread on it over on TTORA with more links if you're interested.

Like I said in the follow-up post on TTORA, if it goes into the main wiring harness it'll be there simply because it'd be to annoying to produce a different wiring harness for every combination of accessories they have for the trucks. Yes, you could wire up a button and it might even light up but that doesn't mean it'll go anywhere. You probably have wires running to a rear diff locker switch. That doesn't mean you suddenly get a rear locker by plugging in the button.

ATRAC involves a total of 8 wheel sensors and corresponding software. If your model year didn't even offer ATRAC, putting an ATRAC button under your pillow won't make the traction control fairy come and upgrade your truck while you're sleeping at night.
