Probably not unless it is a reference signal to a sensor in which case i would not mess with. What would you need a 5v line for?

no, I want to make my on MP3 charger.
that sirius charger is very reasonable at 19.99 vs grom boxes, i-toys etc
I'll probably just use one of these ( I already have some)

if i can find a place to bolt it to the frame under the dash that will take care of heatsink and ground.

anyone know of any issues with my idea let me know thanks

Why not use one of the two cigarette lighter type outlets and a USB charging plug?

I actually like the 5V regulator you planned above (lots more stealth install possibilities while preserving the outlet), but make sure in your design you can deliver 1000mA as shown in the Amazon model. Some people have jumped on parts that only support half that (the USB spec), but Apple products (and others, don't know) may not properly charge with less than an amp delivery. Not saying you didn't already think about it, offering "just in case".

why not cheap + Stealth + you know it works?

buy a cheap charger like lbridges linked above. Then hardwire it behind the dash, and run a short USB extension plug to a blank spot, or put in a female USB port somewhere in the truck.

A bit more work, but will look great, be stealth, and fairly simple to install.
