I have an 8" JBL GTO804 in a sealed box. I put some fill in it but as I was filling it up i kept asking myself if I should stop or is this enough. So I thought id ask you guys.

Is there such a thing as too much polyfill?

There is an optimum amount, a certain percent of total volume of the enclosure. Just can't recall the percentage off the top of my head.

For an enclosure of less than about 3 cubic feet one should use about 1.5 pounds of polyfill per cubic foot of subwoofer box. 1/2 cu-ft box=0.75 lbs polyfill, 2 cu-ft box=3 lbs polyfill, etc.

Those those wondering "why" to do this, it makes the box "appear" to the woofer as about 30% larger than it physically is. In other words, if your woofer wants to be in 0.75 cu-ft, you can get away with a box of about 0.58 cu-ft if you put in around 0.85 lbs of polyfill. This is a good thing given the amount of available woofer space in a Tacoma.

Credit where credit is due: I got this from a softcopy of a 1995 Car Stereo Magazine article written by Tom Noussaine - I'm not smart enough, or dedicated enough, to have figured it out on my own.
